It Was Always You - Part 9/11

Summary: What if Kevin was the one to get Amnesia. I’m pretending Julia and Tommy are still only separated and not divorced; changed a mention in the previous chapter.
Back in Seattle
Tommy, Julia and Elizabeth are at the airport ready to get to Kevin and the rest of the family. Going through the security checks take longer than the flight itself seems.
While they have been travelling together they haven’t actually spoke much since Tommy met them back at the house. Elizabeth was happy to see them and excited about going to see everyone; last time she went she got a flower in her hair and they went to the beach; she smiles at the memory.
Julia decides to break the ice “So, do we know anything more about Kevin or Robert?” Julia says trying to start a conversation.
“No” Tommy says gently “Haven’t had the chance for anymore updates yet”
Tommy looks at Julia so grateful she was there with him “Julia” he says and she looks at him “Thanks for coming, I needed you here with me” Tommy says being honest with his wife for the first time since they separated. He thinks about how she still hasn’t asked for a divorce yet and he is hopeful.
She looks at Tommy; knowing deep down that she still loved him, he was the father of her daughter and the love her he life. He was still her husband but there was so much trust broken that she wasn’t sure if it could be fixed.
She takes hold of Tommy’ hand and squeeze it “I’m here” she says hoping he realizes the meaning behind the words. They smile at each other and sit in peaceful quiet until Elizabeth starts speaking feeling ignored; it carriers on this way until they land.
They’re getting off the plane hand in hand with Elizabeth in the middle and the first thing Tommy does is get his phone out and rings Justin.
“Hey loser, we’ve just landed. Okay see you in a bit” Tommy says.
They head to baggage claim.

Justin gets in his car and heads to pick-up Tommy, Julia and Elizabeth from the airport.
His mind goes all over the place as he drives; thinking of Rebecca. He looks at the ring on his finger and what it represents; does she even think the same. He questions their whole relationship; she was his sister and then girlfriend and then wife, was it even a good idea to start dating if she can drop him so easily it seemed. He remembers back to all their argument and disagreements; sure people can have these in relationship but as many as they had in the past seems unlikely.
He tries a different analogue and thinks of the good times verses the bad times and then regrets doing that as well. Have there really been more bad times than good? Shocked at this; he doubts that his marriage would survive this accident, especially when he thinks they were already on breaking points just before. Then he thinks of the miscarriage; maybe it was fated he thinks. He shakes the thought away, he would have loved his kid but he is starting to doubt the love he feels or felt for Rebecca.
He sits in the car; he’s still a little bit earlier for them to be out; unless their baggage was the first out, especially with three of them. He sits there and makes a decision he takes off his wedding band and puts it in his glove department in the car. He gets out and walks towards the arrivals part of the airport. He watches the people coming out of the terminal and hears a “Justin” he looks for Tommy and doesn’t see him but sees someone else he knows; he smiles.
“Is that really you, Justin?” Taylor says as she hugs him “How have you and your family been?” she’s curious about how he is and she loved Nora and the rest of the Walkers. She notices the smile start to disappear from his face after she called his name.
“Um, I’m good, okay, how about you, where did you just come from?” Justin says trying to change the subject.
Taylor notices the side-step and figures she’ll answer the question first “I’ve just came back from vacation; been to Kenya for three weeks” now she’ll try her question again “Justin, what’s wrong as soon as I mention your family you looked sad, tell me” Taylor says in a soft demand.
“Um, we were anyway in Ojai for a family get together” Taylor smiles at the memory of Ojai and the tree house embarrassment “We were driving back and there was a multiple car crash” he says. Taylor becomes concerned; the way he’s speaking and looking makes it seem that someone was hurt or dead; maybe more than one.
“Oh, Justin, what happened” Taylor says with nothing about concern in her voice.
“Robert is in a coma” Justin says first knowing that she might have heard about the marriage between Kitty and Robert since it was in the papers “and Kevin is suffering from amnesia. At least he is alive; thank god” Justin says realizing for the first time how gratefully he is to still have his brother; Robert was still badly hurt and Holly was dead.
“Oh, I’m sorry Justin” Taylor said giving him another hug.
“Justin” Tommy yells when he spots Justin with some girl. They both look towards him and they recognize each other. What is Justin doing with Taylor? Tommy wonders.
Tommy and Julia look at each other but don’t say anything until they reach Justin. Hugs and introduction are made; though the latter part wasn’t needed.
“Justin, I have to go but would you like to meet up some time and talk?” Taylor says hesitantly, knowing that the family situation would take priority but not wanting to leave it the way it was.
“Yeah, I’d like that” Justin says smiling; Tommy and Julia have another silent conversation like so many married people do; what the hell is he doing? As they swap details to make sure they are right.
Everyone says goodbye to Taylor. “Um bro, what was that about” noticing he isn’t wearing is ring anyone; even Julia and himself were still wearing there. “Not now” was the response Justin made.
“Let just get to the hospital. Everyone is going to be so glad to see you” Justin says as he picks up Elizabeth “Oh, I’m not sure if everyone knows you’re coming yet though I’d be surprised if they didn’t. I was going to tell them and things just kept on happening; I still haven’t seen Kevin yet since we found out” Justin says looking back at them as they got to the car.
They looked shocked like he thought they would “Well, with Holly I stayed with them. Then it was decided best for me not to be there because in thought I was over in the war; so just haven’t had the time. I’ll tell you everything that has happened on the way to the hospital” Justin says.

Outside Kevin’ room
Scotty and Jason acknowledge each other. Jason decides it would be best to put some distances between them and goes to see Robert; he heads right.
Scotty needs some fresh air and heads left hoping to go the entrance of the building, this seems like the third time his heart has broke today. Kevin was going to choose Jason this time he thought. How could Jason do that to him; then again he did the same thing really.
He just loves Kevin so much how is he going to live without him.
“Scotty” he hears Kevin yell. He stops not believing his ears; he is just hearing what he wants to hear. He turns around and sees Kevin hurrying to him; want is he doing, Jason went the other way.
“Don’t you know that; it was always you, I love you” Kevin says. Scotty just looks at Kevin and sees his husband for the first time today; the one man that knows exactly what to say when he needs it most.
“I love you too” Scotty says and with new found hope he kissed Kevin with everything he had.
“I’ve missed you, Kevin” Scotty says when they part. It was only a short kiss but Scotty needed it more than life itself.
“I’ve missed you too” Kevin says echoing Scotty’s thoughts.
“I’m glad to have you back in our life, Kevin” Scotty thinks about how he is first choose, maybe he always was. He doesn’t actually care why Kevin was here in front of him instead of Jason but just glad he was.
“Scotty” Kevin says knowing somehow what he was thinking “What every life I have; I want you to be part my life. Whatever I’m doing and where ever I am I want you beside me. I might have been confused at the Jason situation but it feels like you walked back into my life today but you never left my heart. I was trying to think how did I get you back and felt unworthy but I don’t care how, why or when as long as we are together” Kevin says looking in Scotty’ eyes.
“Me too” Scotty says going for another more passionate kiss.
Once they stop kissing Kevin asks “Can we go home now, I really don’t like hospital?” cautiously and hopeful. He isn’t sure even Scotty would want him to be at home with him.
“Kev, I want that more than anything but we should talk to the doctors. You’ve only came out of your coma, you might be fine but I want to make sure first. Plus we need to check in with the doctors about how to deal with your amnesia” Scotty worried thinking they has started to move certain things into the new place and he might not be ready to know that yet.
Both realizing that it has been an emotion day that they needed sleep they headed back to Kevin’ room Scotty took off his coat and thrown it on the chair by the bed and walked to the bed. They both just fitted on the bed and cuddled each other as they feel asleep, needing that little rest and comfort of each other.

Justin arrives with Tommy, Julia and Elizabeth walk into the hospital and walk towards Kevin’ room but gets stopped by the family.
Everyone says hello and hugs all-round for Tommy, Julia and Elizabeth. Once that is over they try heading to Kevin’ room when Nora says “They are sleeping; I think they needed it today. Plus visiting hours are actually over now” Nora says not wanting to disturb them after she saw them asleep together; looking content. “We should go home; you guys saying with me” Nora says as a statement rather than a question. Tommy and Julia know better than try arguing with Nora “Yeah, we can come back tomorrow morning and see him I guess” Tommy says concerned.
Just as they leave they see Jason walk by avoiding everyone’s glaze and without anyone saying anything to stop him.
Justin looks at everyone and says “Did we miss something?” not sure what happened; he might not of been happy with Jason or Kitty for that matter but the silent treatment. He seemed like he knew not to speak to anyone as well.
“Oh, that was interesting” Sarah says wanting to spread the gossip and happy with the outcome this time; then she sees her mothers’ and Saul face “I’ll tell you later; when we get to mum’s house, Luc is meeting us there later and wants to detail” Sarah knows that this gossip is the best that has happened in a while but they’re right this isn’t the time or place for it.
The Walkers leave the hospital glad about the progress of Kevin and of Scotty.

Kevin’ Room
Kevin wakes up surrounded by the warmth of Scotty and loving it but he needed to go to toilet. He quietly and gently removes himself from Scotty and leaves the bed; make sure not to wake up Scotty.
He comes back into the room a few minutes later and is about to get back into bed when he notices some paper on the floor. Scotty didn’t realize when he had thrown his coat that the notes for the doctor came out.
Kevin lent down to pick up the notes with the intention of putting them on the side but his curiosity gets the better of him. He reads the one about his family first and thinks of how much he has missed; Rebecca isn’t his sister and married Justin (WFT), Elizabeth is his biological daughter and Kitty had cancer.
He looks at the next piece of paper recognizing Scotty’ hand-writing; he thought it couldn’t have as many surprised; he was wrong, very, very wrong. He knew about be married and how he asked Scotty but he quit his job and worked for Robert; that was the biggest shock on the list. He looks down the list and sees that Scotty and Saul are opening a cafe then he looks at that fact that Scotty and he were going to be parents.
Kevin looks at Scotty and just says softly “Scotty”, Scotty looks up knowing that Kevin wasn’t by his side and wondering where he was. He looks at Kevin and sees the paper in his hands.
“Kevin, you shouldn’t...” Scotty stops halfway through the sentence when he sees Kevin’ eyes role back in his head. I next second; Kevin is lying on the floor and Scotty is out of the bed and screaming for help.
