So all my pent up aggression is going to come out this year, finally. Thank God. I'm totally serious, too. If you want to see the spectacle, come to some of the rugby games this year. I don't know how to play yet, but Wyatt showed me how to tackle over the summer, and THAT'S what I'm really looking forward to. It'll also be nice to get in shape. I've been doing a pretty good job over last month or so with stretching and doing body-weight workouts before school, so that now I'm probably feeling physically better than I ever have, including past baseball seasons. It also feels good to finally have the patience to hold a stretch for 15 seconds.

Jack White is One Smart Cookie. I haven't heard the self-titled cd or De Stijl, but their last two cds have been fun as hell. He's able to change styles rapid-fire, and with such confidence that you know each change is going to be okay and that each song will be sweet. If you're into new music at all and haven't gotten your hands on a White Stripes album because you can't take them seriously or something, do it. You will be rewarded with the best syrupy red/white/black macabre blues folky fake-mustachioed balladeering and kickass rock you'll ever hear, probably.

I read two college essays today. Taylor's was about Pet Sounds and Ian's was about the impact that Ice Cube and His Marauding Pirates have had on his life and the world. They were both really good. It would be smart for the regular South teachers to require students to write college essays like IHS does, because I can see myself putting that off for a really long time if I'm not given some motivation right now. But maybe there's some problem with requiring college essays from students, like maybe the kids who aren't going to college get pissed or maybe it makes kids not take the essays seriously. It's not like I've seen evidence for that last point or anything.
