Things that are said that aren't just in passing

I'm sorry I've neglected posting to LJ lately. I haven't had the time to put any effort and emotion in to it. I continually post to twitter/friendfeed/facebook - so if you don't have me on there and want some update regularity, that is where to go. I use LJ these days for more of my deeper thoughts type stuff which need more warmth than a 140 character or less post.

Anyways, I was told something by a friend of mine last night that hit me pretty hard.  This person has a blood disease that causes all sorts of nasty things like liver and kidney problems. Granted, I have multiple people in my family with diabetes that have similar issues, but the way this was said just hit me hard and I couldn't get it out of my mind.

"I'm dying faster than you Kyle, and it's just not fair"

I am losing a friend, maybe not for years, but they are right - They are dying faster than I am in theory. But what hurts more is their knowledge of that mortality. We all know we'll die, If your death was predicted by looking at an hourglass with sand trickling away at a steady rate this person's hourglass has a larger hole and the sand is slipping away even faster. I can only imagine how horrible it must feel  to recognize the hourglass flaw but have no control over it..

I'm sure there are years to come before this person is lost to us, but I'm not down with losing anymore friends, ever....
