It is said that the road to a friend is never long.
The anticipation of your smile and open arms
make the journey short and sweet.
The ride home is long and lonely,
my thoughts drowning out the music.
I carry your heart away with me
and feel the blush of your tentative kiss
gently swelling my heart as I cross the mighty Merrimack.
Coasting southbound on the rising moon
as the sun settles into the west,
I've proven that the road that has wound
through years of peaks and valleys
is a straight shot between us.
In spite of all these years,
the road is never too long.
