computers

So it is that time at work when we can put in requests for new computer hardware. All I know is my current work machine is, I believe, from before when I started in 2003 and it's getting to where it just isn't adaquate for what I need it to do.

My current comp has:
Xeon CPU 2.4GHz
512 MB of RAM
34.1 GB harddrive

So... what are the standards for a decent work computer right now? I'm going to request possibly just a new computer, but if I really only need a new harddrive and some RAM, I could just request that (if so, what is a reasonable and useful size/amt for each?). I use the computer mainly for programming and running builds of the help systems (which can take over an hour or 2 or 3... there is lots of content to process for that!).

I know that the main issue I have is harddrive space (I have about 4.2 GB free right now, and that drops more when builds are running). I do have a pretty clean machine when it comes to extras (few pics or mp3s) -- my personal stuff folder is only about 370 MB. Program Files is where most of the space is taken up with ~9GB (and all in it are needed). Then "System Volume Information" (whatever that is) takes about 5GB. The content used in builds takes up about 5GB.

Thanks! I have to write up a request and I just don't know what is reasonable these days.
