Wow, this weekend was fun. Normally I can't play on Friday night because I do some other stuff with my friends; this weekend however I went to my good friend Mike's who also plays FFXI, so he let me log on and my LS decided we should go kill Vrtra...
So we all gather together at KRT and hang out killing gobs and sheep for a few hours before everyone finally made it to the zone and we formed our alliances. It sucks that people have to be dragged away to do events like this, I mean we are an HNM LS -and- it was a scheduled event -and- it is lots of fun. I mean what do people have to lose? A little exp here and there? With an LS full of level 73+ members is it really that difficult to find a party?
Anyway, so we gather together starting at 8 and ended up actually engaging (well sort of!) the mob at around 11:30. We didn't last very long becuase we were gathering up at our camp site for the add party and discussing strat when Vrtra decided to wander over and aggro. All sorts of hell broke loose, mobs were being summoned, bones were defying physics and passing through doors to kill taru, and Vrtra... well she's just mean. We ended up lasting a whole 2.5 minutes before the full 2 alliance wipe. We had to all HP because we were too close to the door where all the skellies would gladly blood aggro anyone getting up. Yea, it was a mess.
We ended up going back to try again after we all HP'd. We discussed strat before heading down the stairs into the higher level area so we went in with full knowledge of what we were doing. Now that being said this was our LS's first attempt at -any- CoP Wyrm. I'm told Vrtra is a real nasty one so hey, why not start with her! We get past the stone door and the monk party starts killing the mobs in the area. We are able to get into our position when... AGGRO! Yay! Some WHM (not part of our LS) that wanted to help out ended up getting too close and was pulled in. Our tanks were ready anyway so we engaged. This time we lasted for about 10-15 minutes before the adds just started building up and we couldn't handle them anymore. Black Mages were in a party and responsible for killing the summons but somehow the monk party ended up going after the mobs I was trying to call assist on (I was leading the blm pt) and that just threw things all out of wack. Not that we could have done any better if the mnk party was doing the right mobs, since we only had 4 blm in the entire alliance anyway.
So after another HP we were defeated again and decided it's probably best to start out on Tiamat. And after all that experience loss not one person complained and almost -everyone- talked about what a great time it was with the LS. Truely, it was a lot of fun to at least try... and one day we'll get our revenge.
