There was a strange man sitting at Clark Kent's desk. Lois started forward to confront the interloper only to stop when she heard her name called.
"Lois Lane! What in the hell are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be covering Ambassador Long's arrival in Beijing? In Beijing?"
She turned to face Perry White. She smiled tightly.
"The trade talks aren't going anywhere, Perry. Much like my career. Where's Smallville and who's this -- person at his desk?" She gestured at the redheaded man who was getting to his feet. "I need Clark to cover the action down at LexCorp Tower."
"Lois, I'd you to meet Vic Sage --"
Lois ignored the man's extended hand. "Nice to meet you. Where's Smallville?"
"Kent doesn't work here anymore -- " Sage tried to explain.
"What? Did Luthor make him quit?" Lois ignored Sage and continued to rant at Perry.
"Actually, his resignation said that he wanted to start a family and that working as an investigative reporter didn't fit in with his plans."
"Start a family? With Lex Luthor?" Lois' voice was getting shrill.
"They seemed quite serious about it at Clark's farewell party." Perry was enjoying this too much.
"There was a party?"
"You didn't see Cat's article?" Of course not. Lois refused to read Cat Grant's column.
"Cat wrote an article about a farewell party for Smallville? Cake and punch?"
"Oh, no. The Luthor-Kents threw a lavish get-together for the Planet staff and Clark's friends. Clark made some impressive friends while he worked here. Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince, Oliver Queen -- I think that the King of Atlantis sent sushi."
Lois turned on her heel and stalked out the way she came in.

The ominous click of a gun's safety being released gave Bruce Wayne pause. He looked up to see Mercy Graves holding a weapon trained on him. Lex still hadn't released his iron grip on Bruce's arm.
"I mean it, Bruce. Try to contact Clark and I'll have her shoot you where you lay."
"Lantern needs help."
"Parasite feeds on the energy of organic beings through touch. Who can you call that he can either not touch or won't feed him organic energy?"
"I hate it when you are logical, Luthor. May I contact J'Onn?"
Lex released him and allowed them both to get off the floor. "Of course. Now get that -- creature out of Clark's city." He turned to Mercy. " Make sure he's out of here as soon as he finishes contacting the Manhunter. Shoot him if you hear him mention calling Superman."
Lex brushed off his suit and went to cancel a board meeting. They wouldn't be selling the Gotham division afterall.
