Chapter 1:

Eunhyuk was at a loss of what to do. It might have been a good fifteen minutes and he was still in the same position. He could see Donghae getting weaker, slipping in and out of consciousness. His phone rang all of a sudden, and he mentally kicked himself for forgetting to contact Hyoyeon when he could’ve long ago.

“YAH EUNHYUK! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! I WAITED OUTSIDE FOR YOU FOR SO LONG AND YOU DIDN’T BOTHER TO CALL ME. SO BEING ME, OF COURSE I WOULDN’T WANT TO CALL YOU FIRST, I HAVE MY PRIDE RIGHT. BUT YOU… YOU…”

“Hyo? I need help here, right now. HYO!”

“HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? NO WAY AM I HELPING YOU.”
“I’m serious here Hyo.”
“SO AM I! I’M NOT HELPING YOU AT ALL.”

“If you’re not helping me, I’m telling Jinki you’ve had sex fantasies about him before.”

“You are my best friend Eunhyuk. Where are you?”

A loud click of the door could be heard once he hung up his phone, and Eunhyuk could see a rather burly man rush towards them. With a “Donghae!”, he sent Eunhyuk flying over to the other end of the studio, causing the said man to curse mentally at the impact of the fall. He felt his left elbow burning, and he could see a trickle of crimson red flowing down his arm. He looked up to see Donghae being hauled onto the man’s back and carried out of the studio frantically, with a few other trailing behind.

“You okay?” He turned to the owner of the voice, and watched the other kneel down beside him. “Looks bad there.” He tilted his chin towards the fresh wound, and whipped out his handkerchief to press down on the scrape.

Eunhyuk bowed down his head and slightly winced at the sting when pressure was applied on his wound. “Thank you…” He trailed off, waiting for the other to supply his name.

“Kyuhyun. Cho Kyuhyun.”

Eunhyuk couldn’t find words to express his shock as his head shot up to look at the man clearly. “Kyuhyun? THE Kyuhyun?” He didn’t bother to shut his mouth as he watched the other man chuckle, nodding his head in the process.

“Well thanks for your compliment. I’m just Donghae’s very good friend who also happens to be a singer.”

If there was someone who could make Eunhyuk forget his arm and ankle calling for attention and treatment and just leave him gaping at them with his mouth hung open, it was Donghae. And if Donghae so happens to be knocked out and carried away to the hospital, then it was Kyuhyun. The man was Donghae’s senior in the music industry, and unlike Donghae, he was a ballad singer, complete with killer looks that could compete Donghae’s own face.

“HYUK AH! HYUK HYUK HYUK! ARE YOU OKAY?”

The silence was broken when Hyoyeon ran to Eunhyuk, her voice echoing through the empty studio. He noticed Kyuhyun stifle a laugh, and mentally groaned at Hyoyeon for making a scene.

“Aww baby come to mama. I was wrong for leaving you alone while I went to pee. I should’ve just lugged you along with me to the toilet.”

Eunhyuk struggled out of Hyoyeon’s arms and looked apologetically at Kyuhyun, mouthing a Sorry to the other.

Kyuhyun shook his head and smiled, standing up. “Well if you are fine now, then I’ve got to get going. Take care.”

Hyoyeon stared at the singer’s retreating back view and blinked. Once, twice. Kyuhyun swore he heard a “OMG THAT’S KYUHYUN RIGHT? HYUK YOU LUCKY BASTARD.” echo through the hallways of the building.

Eunhyuk mentally cringed at his friend’s volume and had to remind himself that Hyoyeon was actually a good friend so killing her would do him no good to prevent him from smashing Hyoyeon’s face to the ground.

“Hyo I need some help here. My ankle’s worse now and I’m kind of bleeding. Bring me to the hospital.”

Hyoyeon snapped her head towards her friend on the floor. “Oh right, let’s go.”

She supported Eunhyuk in standing up and hobbled with him to the entrance. “Anyway,” She narrowed her eyes. “What were you doing with Kyuhyun inside the studio? What happened to your baby Donghae? You swore you would marry him, if not you would rather stay an old maid and be left on the cabinet to accumulate dust.”

Eunhyuk sighed and decided against telling Hyoyeon that technically, he was with Donghae inside the studio, not Kyuhyun, to avoid another of Hyoyeon’s spazzes. Who knows, knowing her, she might just let Eunhyuk fall face flat on the ground while she busy herself with calming herself down and crying with gratitude that her friend finally had his dream come true.

As Eunhyuk stepped out of the cab, he could see a small group gather outside the entrance of the hospital. Hyoyeon had to resort to stomping on people’s feet to get Eunhyuk into the hospital. He allowed the doctor to look at his ankle and elbow, and groaned when he heard the doctor chide him for not receiving treatment for his ankle earlier, and now it had gotten so bad that he has to wrap his leg in a cast. He was waiting outside the consultation room in a wheelchair (Hyoyeon decided to plant him in one so that he could move around better) while his friend insisted on talking to the doctor when he caught sight of the same burly man that had mercilessly pushed him aside earlier on. He narrowed his eyes and inwardly cursed at the man when Hyoyeon burst out of the room, looking exceptionally pleased with herself.

“Hyuk~” Eunhyuk held his breath when he saw his friend’s expression. (Note: A pleased-with-self Hyoyeon was never good news.) “Guess what? I convinced the doctor to let you stay in the hospital until you recover!”

“What the hell Hyo? What the hell?”

“What! How inconvenient is it for you if you had to move around in a wheelchair?”

“The last time I checked, YOU were the one who decided to make me camp on a wheelchair.” Eunhyuk grumbled, silently accepting his fate as he knew he could never win a determined Hyoyeon.

“Excuse me! I was brilliant to have thought that. Now hush, and wheel yourself to ward 4B.”

The next few days saw Eunhyuk on his hospital bed, bored to his guts, ankle recovering. Hyoyeon visited daily during the visiting hours, bringing along magazines to cure his boredom. But when you are a guy and all your friend brings are magazines that teach you make up tips and how to make your boyfriend happy on bed, you can’t do much with them. Eunhyuk silently suspected that Hyoyeon brought those for HER own sake, to prevent herself from being too bored when he was asleep. Jinki visited once during the last few days, and that was the last time Jinki visited. Eunhyuk mentally cringed at the memory. Jinki had effortlessly knocked over the jug of water on his bedside table, and fell on his ass ungraciously when attempting to clean up the mess. After the nurse convinced him that it was not his fault and he didn’t need to feel guilty about that because people makes mistakes, he planted himself on the chair beside Eunhyuk’s bed and kept still. For 3 minutes. Then he mumbled something about going to the toilet and ended up pushing a teenager on his wheelchair down the hallway of the ward. Eunhyuk didn’t even want to listen what happened to the poor boy because even HE could hear the impact of the crash loud and clear, and he was at the other end of the ward. The nurse still insisted that Jinki didn’t need to feel bad about it, but Eunhyuk could see how her smile faded that little bit. After that episode, Eunhyuk complained about how his bed was too high for him to get off his bed at times, and boy, was that a mistake. Jinki volunteered to help him lower his bed instead of calling for the nurse like Eunhyuk had insisted. (“Come on Eunhyuk, you don’t believe me? It’s just lowering your bed! What can I do? Break your bed into two?”) Jinki didn’t break the bed, but he almost broke Eunhyuk into half as he clamped Eunhyuk between the two ends of the bed. He had accidentally pressed the wrong button and raised one end of the bed. Then he panicked and resorted to pressing the button beside, causing the other end of the bed to rise too. He had looked on in shock as Eunhyuk struggled desperately to get out of the narrow space, finger still unconsciously pressing down on the button. If not for one of the nurse who happened to walk past, Eunhyuk might have just died in the hands of Lee Jinki, and he had made a mental note to be eternally grateful to the nurse. Jinki had apologised profusely after that, and the nurse just smiled politely when she turned to face Jinki. Thank god visiting hours were over, and Jinki promised to come back the next day. But Eunhyuk never got to see Jinki around again, and then he overheard one of the nurse conversing with the doctor-“Do you think it’s possible to ban someone out of the hospital?”-and he silently thanked her for that.

It was another typical evening when Eunhyuk decided to go to the rooftop garden of the hospital for a breather. Visiting hours were over, and it was getting kind of stuffy in the ward. As Eunhyuk reached the top of the building, he patted himself on the head for a good choice made, and drank in the sight in front of him. The sun was just setting, and painted the whole city a mesmerising golden colour. He poked his head out and looked around. Nothing. Nobody was here. Visitors were no longer allowed at this time, and he guessed all the other patients were probably taking their dinner or sleeping. He wheeled himself slowly towards the railings when his wheelchair was caught on a step. Aww damn, Eunhyuk sighed, and was about to stand up when he felt someone push his wheelchair from behind. He turned around as much as he could in the limited space on the wheelchair, and was met with a light pink tie. He allowed his gaze to trail up to the other’s face, and was met with the glory of Cho Kyuhyun, clad in sunglasses and a smile ghosting over his lips.

“Hey.”

Kyuhyun’s voice snapped Eunhyuk out of his trance, and he made a mental note to stop staring at the other like that. It made him look like a creepy pervert.

“Oh hi.”

Kyuhyun pushed the wheelchair to the railings, and sat down on a bench beside Eunhyuk. “Beautiful sight huh?”

“Sure is. What are you doing here?” Eunhyuk didn’t mean to sound rude or unhappy, but judging by how Kyuhyun’s expression changed into an uncomfortable one, he slammed his head a wall mentally. “I mean, it’s over visiting hours now.” He added, trying to make it clear that he didn’t mean it that way.

“I’m a star. They give exceptions to stars no? Besides, this is the only time I’m free of any activities.”

Eunhyuk nodded. “Is… is Donghae awake?”

Kyuhyun chuckled and glanced at the boy beside him. “If he’s not by now, he might as well be in a coma. He just fainted, nothing big. Too exhausted from all those promotion activities.”

“But how did he end up… I mean, you know, in the studio?” Eunhyuk didn’t know how to phrase his sentence.

“Ah that. He went back there to get his handphone I think. Left it backstage. But the staff didn’t see him, so they locked him in.” Kyuhyun poked a finger towards Eunhyuk. “With you.”

Eunhyuk couldn’t stop the blush crawling up his face. He slapped Kyuhyun’s hand away. “It’s rude to point.”

“He doesn’t remember you saving him though. Thought it was his manager that carried him to the hospital.”

“Oh.” Eunhyuk didn’t mean to sound disappointed, but he guess he couldn’t hide the sinking feeling in his heart.

“Want me to tell him?”

“NO! I mean, there’s no need to.” Eunhyuk whispered, eyes focused on his fingers. He won’t remember me even if you do anyway.

“I like you.” Kyuhyun smiled. “You’re cute.”

Eunhyuk didn’t just spat saliva over Kyuhyun’s god-like face. “Sorry.”

Kyuhyun wiped the spit off his face and looked at Eunhyuk. “What’s your ward?”

“4B.”

“Mmhmmm.. let’s meet here tomorrow. I’ll bring Donghae along. Ciao.”

And Eunhyuk was left alone on the rooftop staring at Kyuhyun’s back view, with his heart beating faster than ever.
