100 Things #1

So I've decided to take the plunge and do this.... I was hesitant, because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do exactly - so I've chosen to explore 100 Characters that have Inspired Me (in other words: those characters that I just love and want to squeeze!)

This may seem like an odd place to begin, there are SO MANY characters that are so Important, but Eva was why I decided to do this in the first place.

Eva Rodriguez from Center Stage. This movie pretty much defines me as a teen. Not because I was actually a ballerina, but because I watched it so many times my sister, mother, and I can pretty much quote the entire film to each other over lunch .... still. Eva is NOT the star of the movie - she's the star's spunky sidekick. She isn't given a love interest (when even the "mean girl" is) no - Eva is the one who doesn't care. The one who says that the system is crap, that dancing isn't worth it, that she can always just go do something else. She's feisty and spirited and pushes everyone's buttons. And her best friend is the black gay man who just ships her with dancing the way that the audience does.

At the end of the day, Eva is the one who stands the tallest, the one who fights the hardest. Even after insisting that she just doesn't care. It is her passion in herself that turns the film around, gives the other girls the strength of mind to succeed. It is her love for dancing that makes the "mean girl" turn her life around. She never loses her fire, her strength, her success is that she acknowledges that she is strong. Plus - look at her FACE when she dances!

I'm not dancing for them anymore, I'm dancing for me.
