Sunset 1.5/?
A bit short today, but not because Tehya doesn't have a long way to go, but because I'm playing with this whole idea of setting the scene, showing not telling. Basically, I'm trying to force myself to write creatively for the first time in my life. So ... short. But hopefully it sets the scene the way I want it to :)
Tehya Raine, Age 8
My name is Tehya Raine. It means “presios precious queen” - Tehya for mamma and Raine for daddy.
Today was my eighth birthday. Mamma gave me this journal today. She said it was to help me remember “growing into myself” - it sounds like grown up speech for something I’m not supposed to understand yet. But I do. I’ve known since I could read that I am not like other kids. I have a destiny, grandpapa says to me a lot.
I can’t have sleepovers with the other girls in my ballet class, ever. They whisper about my pretty mamma when they think I can’t hear. But I don’t care. Mamma says I dance like I was born to always be dancing. I love ballet. Mamma tickles me and says she felt me dancing in her tummy.
Today is my birthday. I promised mamma I would write every year. I don’t know why she made me promise. Every year my birthday is the first day of the full blue moon. My favorite day. The first day of school. I wish mamma had let grandpapa come this time. I wish every year he will come for my birthday. I love to watch him run with mamma. But mamma is always afraid on my birthday. She brushes my hair and cries. I think it has something to do with the oath she is always talking to grandpapa about. I wish I could know the things mamma thinks I’m not old enough to understand.

[EDIT]:: 7/24/11 - this world grew in complexity over night and I have chosen to make some small changes. All will be revealed in time, unless you were paying super close attention, this will seem pretty much the same. Only some minor vocabulary changes were made.
