Comic-Con 2010 - Final post at last!

Aug 26, 2010 02:49

Ages after the fact, I finally decided to stop neglecting LJ and post the rest of my Comic-con experience just to have something a little more interesting than just a bunch of random pics in my HDD. Friday, Saturday and Sunday all blurred together by now, though.

This here is one of the bubble people floating gently in the breeze that I mentioned before. Someone already put a video of these things in action on YouTube. Really cool. I hope Skyline doesn't suck.

I will also say this: that metal sculpture is a total creep. He's like, peeping at this other metal sculpture of a topless mermaid or something that's on the other side. XD

Now this poster below, I saw it at a booth where they had Klimt prints and some truly gorgeous vases and stuff. I fell in love with it. It's just so vintage beautiful and eerie. Want. Incidentally I'm currently sporting a similar haircut.

And these little guys from the Full Moon booth are my favorite. Back when I was a kid I thought these were the most awesome toys ever made. Now as a grown up I own a poseable Blade figure and a little Tunneler action figure. Money well spent.

Looking at these I sort of wish Puppet Master had a fandom...

But if they ever turn against us, who you gonna call?

Look, it's the ECTO 1!!! Not the original, though, but a great-looking replica. I read somewhere that the original was actually left to rust in the studio lot, forgotten along with a bunch of other movie treasures. Not sure if they've done something about it by now. And my Pee-wee doll strikes again! But, you know, not possessed like those other guys.

Pee-wee + My Little Pony = WIN. Onwards to Puppetland!

And here he is again, this time having dethroned Odin himself and laughing about it. This is a replica of Odin's throne from the upcoming Thor movie. Everything I know about Norse mythology I learned from Marvel, Dark Horse, and that silly Son of the Mask movie. Sad but true.

Look, it's the Ambiguously Gay Duo! This made me go LOLWTF. Alex Ross FTW.

This really old dude below is a legend. He's so freaking legendary, in fact, that the sheer force of it made my camera focus all blurry. Without this man, we probably would not have batman_lulz . Behold, the man who created the greatest nemesis of our beloved Bat-man! Oh, and he also created Robin, I guess: Jerry Robinson.

This other old guy below is another living legend, but surely everyone knows Stan Lee. Seeing him there with all the people, he's like, the Hugh Heffner of comic books. He was promoting Karakuridoji Ultimo, I think. Not even manga is safe from his powers.

Look, it's Doug Jones! :D

And here's David Zayaz, AKA Angel Batista from Dexter, signing some cool stuff that I cannot has. Finally a decent pic.

I probably should've tried to find a way to get my Dexter pin signed or something but I still need to catch up with last season and that made me feel like a bad fan. I was like, "OMG, Angel is still alive!" I fear he would've seen it in my eyes.

Here are some amazing-looking steampunk guys. I only noticed now that Steampunk Santa is giving me the evil eye for taking the picture. Sorry, Steampunk Santa! Some coal this Christmas, I suspect. I'm crazy about the jar, BTW. If it were up to me there'd be a brain floating inside... ;)

And now here's actually a dude dressed up as the Goon! We were told this was a make-up test, to see if a live-action Goon pic could work, but they went the CGI route in the end. The Goon is an insane comic book with zombies and stuff, published by Dark Horse. A friend of mine who couldn't be there loves it to pieces, which is why I took a lot of pics and video of this panel.

And below is Eric Powell, creator of The Goon (I have read The Goon, BTW, I just don't love it). I'm sorry I didn't post the video, Eric Powell. I just recorded the panel for my friend. But I certainly hope you guys get to make the movie! Going from the footage we were shown it certainly looks pretty badass.

Next up, Paul Giamatti. He plays (or would play) Franky, the Goon's sidekick. This is gonna sound a little weird, but bear with me: Paul Giamatti is kind of cute in person. There's just something about him. I know you think I'm nuts but he's The Amazing Screw-on Head's voice. Here he is, unintentionally pretending to be some guy named Tim Miller.

And this bored-looking dude below directed one of  my favorite movies (David Fincher ZOMG!).

On Friday was the BBT signing. I was a little bummed because my volunteering duties caused me to be a little late, and I didn't make the line. But I got to see the cast from a few feet away. Here are some pics:

ZOMG Johnny Galecki WHAT'S WRONG WITH UR HEADZ!!!1 XD I think a mic behind him is what caused this optical effect.

Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar, all blurry and out of focus.

Jim Parsons looking kind of adorable, if a little blurry too.

A blurry Kunal, seemingly entranced by a charming photographer.

Shenny. XD

That last one is my favorite of the bunch, on account that it is the least blurry. And now, some Oz stuff:

Pretty Oz dolls!

Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Glinda (Ozma?), I suppose.

Glinda (but maybe Ozma), Dorothy, Wicked Witch and some cat (Mombi?), and for some reason Snow White, too.

Really cool Oz art! Is that a brain at the bottom? Mmmmm, brains! A little Dorothy/Scarecrow below:

And on that note, I saw this thing and for some reason I thought of Glitch:

I saw some cool Doctor Who stuff at SDCC, too! I fear the BBC will go to any lengths to get our money:

LOL now selling cute li'l blocks of lard, some 30 bucks a pound I suspect.

Wow, floating, spinning TARDIS!

Hey, am I crazy, or does this guy below look a bit like Jon Pertwee? Anyway, I didn't notice until now, because I was too entranced by the mere sight of THIS AWESOME ACTION FIGURE SET OF EVERY DOCTOR EVAH!!!!1!! At long last, an action figure of Eight! ZOMG ♥!

And finally, some pics of people dressed as Alice in Wonderland characters. There were a lot more people in AiW costumes, but they were all mysteriously nowhere to be found. I daresay they were all in cahoots to avoid me, much like last year.

These girls looked awesome. I particularly loved the steampunk rocketpack (?) on the White Rabbit.

Queen from Burton's AiC! I was gonna crop this pic, but it's just so Comic-con that I decided to leave it as is. :)

I took the pic above in a real hurry. I wish I could've stopped for a decent pic! She was my favorite Alice this year.

And finally, these guys! A girl I was hanging out with turned into a puddle of fangirl goo at the mere sight of this Hatter. He looked even more impressive IRL. He also was very patient (took like four or five pics of him, and my new friend was excruciatingly giggly). Thanks, Mr. Hatter, whoever and wherever you are. :)

So that's it for this year. I think next year I'll just go for a couple of days. Going every single day is both exhausting and expensive! (Bought a DW shirt, pins, some Chaplin posters, a comic book, sushi magnets, a V mask, one of these creepy things and really expensive fast food, WTF). Also this year was marred by the fact that I was unfortunately left alone with a guy I barely know most of the time, which by the end started to make SDCC feel like some sort of epic-long bad date. If you guys accidentally find this someday, sorry, but that's kind of what it felt like (no offense, A).

My sincerest apologies that I didn't get the BBT bag or anything KA related! As I said I couldn't even get a BBT bag for myself this time. You can't get them at the WB booth anymore, now everyone gets one at random at the entrance and that's it. Bummer. I didn't see any KA merchandise except for a very cool three-part poster, which was a little pricey, but I did see some people in costume. I would've taken their picture but I was really tired at the time (plus, since I was too tired Saturday night I didn't check my email, so I was unaware of the small request the next day). Fortunately here they are, and that SDCC post is way, way cooler than mine. I'm pretty sure it was them I saw.

Promise I'll make up for it next year, if I get the chance.
