Day 2 at LSE was surprisingly all right, mostly because I spend most of the time talking to people from Oxford that I know already. Oops. The thing is that there have been no organised things so far, no way of meeting people short of stopping them on the street, which I have been doing but it isn’t easy. There was an introduction in the morning, where my luck had me sitting next to three girls who already knew each other and had no interest in making any new friends. The introduction was a bit pointless, but quite fun.
The Director of the LSE in his intro: LSE is unique, most international university ever, etc, how many of you are from the US? (a bunch of people put hand up)
How many are from Alaska? (no one)
How many of you think that Sarah Palin is fit for the Presidential ticket (one lone hand shoots up)
Well, we now know your face, you won’t get very far here!
Well, maybe a tad mean, but pretty awesome in my books.
After, I talked to someone who also does IR for a while but she had to go then on a tour of the campus got to talking to someone else who was really lovely but she needed to go find a house, and so I ended up going to lunch on my lonesome. There is a rather nice canteen restaurant and as I was sitting and eating my jacket potato, a guy walked past who I vaguely knew from Oxford. I didn’t even know he was at the LSE. So I ended up sitting with him and a bunch of other Econ MSc people, who all have been having maths classes for the last month and as a result all know each other. It was nice though. Then my best friend’s boyfriend also turned up, (he also does econ and so knows everyone) and took me around campus, helped me get a locker and was really very helpful. Went to the LSE pub with all the econ people, who’d had exams and so were celebrating, talked to a few of them including a Bulgarian girl. They were all nice, but since they all knew each other already we weren’t exactly going to be BFFs. Went to the Library for half an hour to sign up for seminars and change my mind about what courses I want to take and then met J, the only person from Univ who is at LSE, we had coffee and talked for ages and it was lovely and comfortable and not what Freshers’ week is about at all. He already knew millions of people on his course, as they’d been organised and had meet ups and lunches and lots of other organised events which I haven’t. So unfair. Then left to have dinner with old friends, and didn’t go in today, but tomorrow there is course induction for which I have very high hopes.
So Gossip Girl, wow! Have been loving the whole season so far, but the last episode was just fantastic! Who knew that all you needed to make Dan Humphrey interesting was a large dose of Chuck Bass, I never thought that would be possible but adored Dan and Chuck. And want to read/write it, which just proves that Chuck has chemistry with anything that moves. I was beginning to get really annoyed with the lack of Chuck/Nate, but I am squashing my complaints after this, as I am shockingly pleased with the replacement. I’m sorry did anything else happen in the episode? Well, I did like the fashion week stuff, and Jenny’s dress and Blair and Jenny bonding was unexpectedly sweet, though I have to say that as much as I love Blair, she was acting like a spoiled brat and I can't help but agreeing with Serena’s little ending speech. Have to say that am looking forward to seeing more of Serena’s inner bitch coming out to play, because she is so much more fun that way. Loved Lily, Bart was terrifying!
