Chapter 7:
Mitsuhara sighed when she heard Tamamori’s question. She knew she had no choice but to answer his question.
“I’ll only tell you this because he’s the one that gave you that wound.” Mitsuhara said and stopped for a few seconds before continuing. “His name is Yamashita Kazuya. He’s the son of another powerful yakuza clan’s boss. We knew each other because of our line of work. That’s all.”
”You’re hiding something from me.”
Mitsuhara sighed again and said, “He said otou-sama was the one that gave him the order to kill me.”
“That is not what I want to hear.”
“Stop beating around the bush. There’s nothing else that you need know.”
“That should be my line. Fine, I’ll ask you again. What is the relationship between you and Kazuya?”
“You don’t have to know…” Mitsuhara said and looked away.
Tamamori stood up and walked to her bed. He turned her head to the right with his hand so that she would be facing him instead of the window.
“Tell me.” Tamamori said in a demanding voice that Mitsuhara has never heard before.
“He’s my fiancé. Happy?”
His hand dropped from her chin when she said that. A feeling with a mixture of anger and uneasiness boiled up inside him. He excused himself by giving the reason that he wanted to rest before he says anything unnecessary.
He headed towards the garden instead of his room to calm himself down. He finds it relaxing there.
“Baka…I told you it wasn’t necessary for you to know.” Mitsuhara said to herself as she looked out to the serene, blue sky.
“This way will be much safer.” Fujiwara said as he helped the nurses to move Mitsuhara into the helicopter.
“We should’ve done this in the first place. Wouldn’t it be better?” Mitsuhara asked. Her decision to go for the scan shocked everyone including Tamamori. They thought she would continue to be stubborn to the end. Mitsuhara even gave the answer right after they asked her without even thinking twice.
“Did Tamamori sensei prescribe you the wrong medicine?” Fujiwara asked. “Or did he blackmailed you into doing it?” he asked again.
“Oh gosh, stop asking. It’s my own decision. Why are you here anyway?”
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m here to prevent that incident from happening again. It would be painful to see Tama-chan getting hurt again. Right, Tama-chan?” Fujiwara said while nuzzling on Tamamori’s shoulder. Tamamori was annoyed and shoved him away.
“Pft…Tama-chan?!” Mitsuhara said and burst out laughing.
‘Stop it. Aren’t YOU supposed to be crazy only after work?” Tamamori said and looked at Fujiwara with such intense eyes.
“Okay, okay. I’ll stop, Tama-chan.” Fujiwara said.
Mitsuhara burst into a fit of laughter again.
“I’ll kick you out of the plane if you call me that again. I mean it!”
“Ooo…Tama-chan is getting angry.” Mitsuhara said and laughed. “Oh gosh, it has been long since I laughed this much. Thanks, Tama-chan.” She added and tried to suppress her laughter this time.
“That’s it! Pilot-san, where is the latch for the side door? I need to throw this person out.” Tamamori said into his headset.
“Aww, Tama-chan…” Fujiwara said.
“No, make that two.” Tamamori said.
“It doesn’t sound funny…” Mitsuhara said.
“Then why are you laughing?”
The whole journey to the hospital continued with them teasing him.
“So, what is the result for the scan?” Chief Tanaka asked. Tamamori went to meet him right after they got back from the trip.
“The tumour is located at the hippocampus which is responsible for storing and retrieving our memories. It is a no wonder why she can never finish the questioning sessions. It is all because of the location of the tumour.
“What you’re saying is that if we don’t remove the tumour, we can never get information from her?”
“Yes, but even with operation there’s still a risk that she may not remember anything after 12 years old until the time of surgery.”
“Why is this so hard? Are there any other way?”
“I’m afraid not. I’ll consult with the Chief Doctor in the previous hospital I’ve worked with. He’s a very experienced doctor regarding brain tumours.”
“Okay, you do that and tell me immediately after the consultation. We can’t delay this any longer.”
“Okay, I understand.”
