Alas! My precious opposable thumbs!

This afternoon, when questioning revealed that our bird Talula had not yet been fed, I set about to correct the situation, though it isn't normally one of my tasks. Talula is a cantankerous old bird at the best of times, and this afternoon she was in an especially bad mood -- understandably, since she hadn't eaten all day. I managed to remove and fill her little food dish with seeds, which she eagerly dug into; but apparently, it was only an appetizer for her. While I was replacing her water dish, she decided she had a much bigger hankering for human flesh.

I've seen Talula's curved beak gouge great juicy chunks out of soft fruits. Apparently it's just as effective on the soft, juicy flesh at the base of my right hand, between the thumb and the wrist.

OH. GOD. THE PAIN.

It looks really gross. I suppose there might be a scar. That, along with a cold and annoying sore throat, and banging my toe rather badly while trying to keep from falling down an escalator, means today was a day of pain.
