The one-night stand that broke Fai's careful heart.
A random one-shot FaixCain crossover that happens to work very well as a prequel to a wonderful kurofai story
written by alliterationhor. Written because I do love Cain. BUT! It's mostly about KuroFai.
Pretty much smut. Definitely tastes of lemon. You has been warned.

Cain and Riff for the uninitiated. From Godchild by Kaori Yuki.
My apologies if this belongs in a different community, but I believe it has enough to do with Fai and Kurogane's relationship
to make up for the random crossovery-ness. PM me if I'm wrong.

This is a prequel to alliterationhor's Discoveries (link at the end).

Good Enough, Mr. Blackbird?

“I’ve got a bad boy and that’s alright with me.”

When Fai first arrived, he figured that after a couple of drinks someone in this bar would start looking good enough, because that was all he was looking for really: good enough. Perhaps these days his standards were getting higher, his desires were a little more specific but still. All he wanted was

someone with the same large hands, maybe, someone just as big, just as tan, just as fierce, just as gorgeous, maybe, would do. Not that it was anything more than a passing fetish but, to have a pair of crimson eyes fill his vision right before a kiss-was that too much to ask?

…It soon became clear that a couple of drinks was definitely not enough.

“His dirty laundry is nothing that I can't keep clean…”

Swaying unsteadily to the music, Fai vaguely noticed the alcohol sloshing from his glass, tricking down his sleeve. Shadowy men, preoccupied with each other, bumped into him and staggered away; they laughed all around him, and though Fai kept smiling his pleasant smile, he felt distinctly unfunny in this stuffy semi-dark.

He should go home. He wanted to go home. He wondered if Kurogane was wondering about him, was out there in the snow already, looking to take him home. The thought of it was…

Obstinately, Fai took a huge swallow and began to force himself into the crush of bodies.

“And when he needs an alibi,
He can use me…all night…”

A white-gloved hand alighted on his shoulder.  Lazily, Fai turned and found himself staring into a pair of golden green eyes rimmed with spiky black lashes. Black hair-check. Sensuous mouth-check. Not currently attached at ass to another man-check, check, check.

“Looking for somebody?” Fai asked. “Are you?”

“Perhaps,” the young man said, shooting a sideways glance as if he didn’t really care either way. “Or perhaps I’ve already found him.” A perfect eyebrow arched upwards, a corner of a lip twitched, but those eyes remained inscrutable, vague, distracting, distracted.

Fai grinned and kissed that smile bigger. “Yeah, you really have.” His beer-sticky fingers found the man’s gloved ones. “Please let me be your somebody Ku-.”

He caught himself.

They were kissing before they hit the mattress, in the dark behind his eyelids Fai tried to conjure memorized moments as the young man’s cold fingers dug into his hair and crushed him closer. Everything about him was so cold, cold, cold-

Fai moaned into the man’s mouth and pinned him down, pulling the blankets over them. Kurogane was never this cold.

The man’s tongue pushed through Fai’s lips and swept across his teeth; Fai shivered and fumbled for the buttons on the man’s shirt. “Is there anything you want to-” Fai began and groaned as thin fingers danced lightly down his spine and slipped between his legs.

Bucking under the touch, his eyes squeezed tight, Fai thought fiercely, boldly, “Kurogane, Kurogane, Kuro-sama, Kuro-chan, Kurogane…” As he had every night, in every one-night bed, since the day they had met. Between kisses the man let Fai peel off his shirt. Slowly the cold fingers traced casual circles on the backs of Fai’s thighs before slipping between their hips. The man undid Fai’s pants and slid them down to his ankles. Fai kicked them off.

“Kurogane, Kurogane, Kurogane,” Fai thought desperately as he worked his way down the man’s chest, licking and stroking, feeling the man’s shivers run through his fingertips. “Kurogane, Kurogane, Kurogane….”

“This is Kuro-sama’s neck,” he thought, as he marked it possessively with his teeth.

“These are Kuro-sama’s angel bones.” “Kuro-sama’s body.”

But Kurogane did not have a small, fragile body; white, bird-boned, and cold. Fai shook his head and rubbed against the man, demanding heat, their nipples bumping. “This is Kurogane, the man I’m-I’m in-love with,” he thought. “He’s here. We’re together. It’s okay.” Fai felt the man’s dick poking between his thighs. He instinctively spread his legs and let the man roll him over. “Ohhh Kurogane…” he thought, as the man, fondling Fai lazily with one hand, let the head of his cock kiss Fai’s hole. In his soft, un-Kurogane-like voice, he whispered, “Are you alright?”

Fai shut him up with a kiss. “Fuuuuuck me,” he breathed. “Just fuuuuck me.” “Kurogane,” he thought. “My lover. Kurogane.”

The man smirked and Fai obediently lifted his legs out of the way as the man squeezed into him and Fai felt his breath quickening and his eyes rolling back into his head as the man’s cold, thin cock brushed against that knot of nerves inside of him again and again with an easy, languid motion and their breaths mingled and Fai was gasping and the man was making quiet, sharp, rhythmic moans before he

paused midway, licked his lips and looked demurely between his lashes at where they were joined.

“No, Kurogane, please,” Fai breathed, “Don’t stop. Don’t stop.”

A chill ran down his spine when he realized what he had just said. Looking into the man’s face, he saw the most curious expression, a mixture of pain, scorn, and piercing understanding. “Riff,” the man replied quietly, daring Fai to contradict. “For you, Riffael.”

Fai cupped the thin, pale face in his hands and gently closed the man’s eyelids. “My love,” he said, in what he hoped was a Riffael-ish voice. “The most beautiful man on earth.”

The man snickered. “Delicious,” he replied, kissing him slowly.

Fai giggled sadly and traced a shaky hand down the man’s chest.

Nodding decisively, the man jackhammered his hips as if to make up for lost time. Moaning, Fai felt himself sliding up the bed with each painful, delicious thrust. He dug his fingers into the sheets to keep his head from smashing into the headboard. Something wet and warm was sliding out his ass and he didn’t terribly care.

It was supposed to hurt, with this other man. It wouldn’t be right if it didn’t burn the way it did.

At last the man let out a shuddering breath and collapsed on Fai’s chest, panting. The feeling of the man’s vulnerable belly rubbing against Fai’s erect cock was terrible.

“Suck me, Kurogane,” Fai commanded, and he felt immediately hot breath between his legs. The man flicked a teasing tongue and Fai’s hips jerked into that smiling mouth. Fai had had his share of bad blowjobs, but this was not one of them. Gripping the base of his penis with one hand, the man pulled on Fai’s length with wet, languid strokes. If Fai had opened his eyes he would have seen him batting his eyes coquettishly from between his legs, but Fai stroked the man’s hair blindly.

Such silky hair. Fai frowned. So unlike Kurogane’s.

The man pulled harder and faster, teasing the head, rubbing Fai’s balls, squeezing Fai’s ass, but tonight Fai felt wrong, sad, lonely. He shifted his hips uncomfortably.

“Perhaps if you only see my body,” the man suggested, rolling on his stomach and crouching like a cat about to pounce. Fai easily slid into the man’s hole, his hips slapping against the man’s ass, but still, Fai felt wrong. “I don’t know how long I can keep this up anymore,” he thought to himself.

“Ah…Is there something-ah--I can do-?” the man asked breathlessly.

“Could you-could you call me ‘Stupid Mage’?”

In the moonlight, Fai could make out the scars across the man’s back, silvery and jagged. Battlescars. Not the same but… The man laughed. “Fuck me, Stupid Mage,” he said in his quiet, low voice. “I love it when you touch me-you Stupid Mage. Hurt me-You Idiot Mage, you’re-Ahhh.”

Fai laughed and gave the man his fingers to suck on. By the time Fai was done with him, the man’s teeth had drawn blood.

They lay side by side in the moonlight, laughing, waiting for their breathing to slow.

“Who’s Kurogane?” the man asked at last.

“Who’s Riffael?” Fai returned with a smirk.

“Who are you, then?”

“I’m Riffael, aren’t I?”

The man sat up, pulling the sheets around his waist before shrugging noncommittally. “You were good enough.”

“Just good enough?  That won’t do!” Fai joked. “I’ll only take the best, the best, the best.”

“Are you going to tell your Kurogane that?”

Silence.

The man began putting on his pants.

“You gonna tell Riffael that?” Fai mimicked lightly. He took the man’s chin in one hand, closed his eyes, and leaned in for a kiss. He could feel the man’s breath on his face, smell the man’s sweat and rosewater scent, but it wasn’t enough anymore. Nothing was good enough anymore. Fai let the man go and sighed. The man returned to buttoning up his shirt.

“Next time he asks,” Fai announced, “I’ll tell him. And you?”

“Don't you worry about me." He closed the door behind him.

The next time Kurogane came searching, Fai swallowed dryly and let himself get caught.
