Oh and yes, the yellow eyes where the first hint. When Seishirou decided NOT to turn Kurogane into one, but let him meet an Oni I knew without a doubt it would be Fai, because that's the only way Sei-chan could cause Kuro-pon more suffering than with his original plan.
Simple logic deduction, calculating Sei-chan's evilness and Kuro's feelings for Fai as his greatest vulnerability.^^

For me, most of the challenge and fun of writing an AU is to find a way to include the major plot elements and themes of the original while accomplishing them in a totally new setting. So it was inevitable that Fai would become a vampire in this story, because it had already happened in the TRC canon. :)

No, the alliance with Ceres is definitely off the table. It was not ever actually a possibility in the first place -- neither Seishirou nor FWR ever had any interest in allying with Ashura in good faith. They regard Ceres as food. But Ashura was desperate enough that he had to try anyway, although after what they did to his envoy, he's going to be pretty epic-level pissed at them.

And you nailed it in one as to Seishirou motivations for wanting to cause Kurogane pain... although, as will be discussed in the next chapter, by making these move he's actually going after Fai more than Kurogane really.

I know this sounds kinda mean, but isn't Fai always suffering to some degree or another anyway

Hahaha! You've got a point there, it's almost too easy, isn't it? ;) But Seishirou has a goal in mind, he's not doing this for kicks. (Okay... not just for kicks.) Seishirou and his master want Ceres -- it's nice and rich with magic, full of tasty human souls and wizards... and something else they're looking for. But, they've never been able to get a foothold there, because of Yukito's wards and the inaccessibility of the location.

Seishirou can't control Fai directly, because Fai is a mage and can resist him in ways that Kurogane simply can't. But if Seishirou can break Fai's spirit and make him an empty shell, then he can use him as a vehicle to get back to Ceres and wreak havoc there. That's why using Kurogane as a lever to get at Fai -- who, after all, doesn't care enough about his own life for Seishirou to get his hooks into him -- is worth it to Seishirou to pass up his chance at revenge on Kurogane

Well, I'm glad Ashura won't pursue the alliance any further. But he could be in trouble if Sei-chan were to break Fai... but since Kurogane is there, he'll keep an eye out for him

Actually, it is not! They don't even know about that. :)

Not to put myself forward, but perhaps you could write just a scene or two illustrating the idea? If you can imagine something clearly, with all the characters together (I think Kurogane as the ice bear would be amazing!) then you could show what you like about the idea. Nobody would fault you for not wanting to write a 50,000 word epic in a secondary language!

I guess I could manage some drabbles easily enough. If I like a particular idea I could always elaborate later, but I'm not sure I should start with epics.. I love them, but I never finish them. And yes, Kurogane as the Polar Bear is such a great picture! I even got several ideas for that..*g* ... gotta stop myself here for now though. I need sleep.

You aren't putting yourself forward, I'd try to weasel people into writing what I consider a good idea just as well. ^.~
