Oh Boxing Day, Oh Boxing Day

We had a nice quiet Christmas. For the first year, the kids both slept in and Michael and I were up early as usual, waiting for them to make an appearance. First came Adam and then Sophie finally woke up - had a shower and got dressed before gracing us with her presence. We were dying while waiting for her!! what happened to the kid who couldn't wait for Christmas? She used to write notes to her Christmas stocking BEFORE Christmas! Ahhh, Teenagers. Gotta love them!

It was a good day though - Michael gave me an espresso maker! We moved our North American one over here, but it takes such a huge transformer to work that it has just sat on the shelf. I have missed my espresso dearly, especially since good coffee is hard to find. The one Michael gave me is much nicer than my old one. It is a lovely gift, totally unexpected.

I also finally nailed my gifts to Michael. I haven't always been successful in that realm. He was very pleased with everything. Phew!

The kids did well for each other too. Michael took them out on the 23rd and Adam got Sophie some scrapbooking stuff and Sophie got Adam an England long sleeve jersey - on sale! It was a nice change from the usual CDs they give each other.

I had planned everything so there would not be too much cooking but I still was exhausted by supper time. It was a bit of a let down - I forgot to steam the pudding, and put christmas Crackers on the table but to be honest, we were all too full and tired to eat dessert. No mind. The kids prefer their pie for breakfast anyway. And tonight it'll be leftovers and crackers and pudding at the table.

I was all set to go to bed early and my best friend called - and talked for 2-1/2 hours! It is rare that we get a good uninterrupted chat so that was a great Christmas present. I finally rolled into bed at 12:30.

Yesterday was a lazy day and we went to a party in the afternoon. It was nice to meet some new people. One of the guests is a bike mechanic and it turns out, he and Michael have been to the same races in California and here. He remembered Michael. How funny was that? And now Michael has someone to fix his bikes. He's thrilled. Michael isn't one to make friends easily but I am getting the feeling that the potential for him to make friends here is very high. He's already made a couple who have good circles and Michael fits. Who'd have thought?

I am hoping to have some serious lazing around today and eating less. I've eaten so much this holiday, I haven't allowed myself to feel hungry. Ughh.

Mostly, I'm very thankful for my husband, my kids and my friends. And generally, I'm content. I can't ask for more than that, can I?
