Finally back home after a little over a month away, and we're back with a new addition to the family. Little Reo decided to join us early via emergency C-section on January 19th. My one week hospital stay was a cold and lonely one due to COVID restrictions, making impossible for Ryu to visit me even once. The nurses were nice enough but for the most part, I wasn't to leave my room except for 6AM weight and urine checks, and to feed Reo every three hours. Between the feedings and translating all the paperwork, there was little time for rest...but at least the food was amazing! (This will get it's own post later.)

Once I was finally discharged, Ryu and I spent three weeks at his parents' house. There, I was able to take it a little easier and have a proper recovery. Ryu's mother made sure I had sleep, ate, and managed a shower. She also got us things for the baby we hadn't purchased ourselves yet and came to our flat to do a major cleaning and re-organization so that things are more easily accessible for us when we're on our own.

Things are not easy. I'm tired and worn-out but I don't exactly feel overwhelmed. I think that's because Ryu looks just as tired, and it's a reminder that how I feel isn't just me -- it's not that I'm lacking or weak or failing. Learning how to raise a child is exhausting. It also helps that a few of my co-workers have been constantly reaching out to make sure I'm okay, to keep me in the loop and serve as an emotional lifeline. I think that once I get back to work, I want to make more of an effort to be friends with these people instead of just being very friendly co-workers.

Japan hasn't re-opened it's borders yet, but we're following the news daily. The closed borders put a delay in the timeline we had established for finding Reo's nursery and getting me back to work. At this rate, a return to work in July seems quite unlikely. As soon as borders open, my mother will be flying over to help with the baby.

We have our one-month check up in two days to make sure Reo is developing properly and that I'm not dangerously depressed. Our pram came in and we have a baby carrier ready. As soon as the doctor clears us both, I plan on going out even if only for a few minutes, daily. I only have 5kg to lose, luckily, but I don't want to wait too long to get back in shape.
