Today was different, though generally great.
- I got my car back, looks brand new. I don't care what anyone says about it being a gerbil powered metro, I love my car.
- Tonight the company drill at SRL was OSHA drill 1 and 2, which was quite possibly more painful than a barium enema(not that I know or anything...I swear). The saving grace was in the jokes being made about it being a pancake breakfast drill and how to safely and properly flip pancakes. The joke lies in the fact that many people are mad that there was a change to the bylaws that now requires 12 work details, up from 8, with a minimum of 4 being for social/fundraiser functions, such as the pancake breakfast. It's total bullshit, as it forces active members to take part in social and fund raising functions that they might not otherwise choose to take part of, or can't due to work, etc. and requires us to do work that is not firematic in any way.
- After the drill there was a semi last minute detail put together to help be a part of a welcome home procession for a captain from Menands who was injured in Iraq. Truck 9, 446 and 447 were brought out in front of the station for the procession while myself, Steve Degroff and Ben went down to the Menands station in 449 to be a part of the ceremony there. It was a lot of fun shooting the shit with Ben and Steve. Recognized several people from my firefighter one class that were there from their own departments, and ran into bethany, who was the only person outside of Ben and Steve that I ended up talking to down there, it was rather funny. Though my opinion's of the war in Iraq have not changed, I can respect what the people on the frontlines have to deal with and think that it is honorable and a great show of respect to give the kind of welcome this soldier recieved.
- I'm back here now, there's more I could go into about all of this, but what's the point?
