Major EU countries drop in World Economic Forum's competitiveness rankings ...whatever those are supposed to mean.
The reason I found this post-worthy at all, is that this is one more bit of doom-and-gloom media fretting about a failing European economy, which will end up influencing the steps that these countries and the European Community will be taking in the near future. NOT because I put much (or any) stock in the statistical value of these rankings per se.
That said, here are the criteria:The WEF competitiveness index of 117 economies was drawn from a poll of nearly 11,000 business leaders worldwide.
Its Global Competitiveness Report aims to reflect a broad range of factors affecting the status of a country's economy, including a stable macroeconomic environment, the quality of public institutions and the level of technological development.
Top ten: 3-year top seed Finland, US, Sweden, Denmark, Taiwan, Iceland, Norway, Australia, ?, ?.
Japan fell off the top 10, to 13th place.
Estonia ranked 9 points higher than Spain, 10 higher than France.
Italy ranks 5 spots below South Africa, and only 2 above China, hahaha.
