If you're going to list sailing, you should also add rock climbing...especially since that deals precisely with using knots in safely protecting, belaying and suspending a person.

And frankly I'd back off on requiring a knowledge of "all" knots known to man, since that's a scope that even Ashley couldn't achieve in his book, and new ones are being (re)invented all the time. Most knots don't apply well to bondage anyway. Knots are like a vocabulary. Like words, the more you know, the better you can express yourself, but you can never know them all. Besides, part of being a master in anything is in specialization. Doctors (including MDs, PhD., JDs, et al) and contractors, for example. A "master" lawyer doesn't need to know all laws.

Perhaps bondage riggers could have an association like the American (Spreader) Bar Association with a standard of minimum requirements, tests and currency benchmarks.

I'd also recommend membership in the International Guild of Knot Tiers.

I also noticed that you don't have any stipulation on recency of experience. It's required for pilots and other professions. Would you really want to be rigged by someone that hadn't put rope on a human in five years....despite their encyclopedic knowledge?

Also, it might be nice for a bondage Master to be covered by some sort of liability insurance...like licensed contractors and doctors and other professionals.

oh, rock climbing! good one. i add that.

ok. maybe not ALL knots. just the ones that are used in ALL forms of bondage and stuffs ;)
so is there a version of linguistics, but for knots?

>>Perhaps bondage riggers could have an association like the American (Spreader) Bar Association with a standard of minimum requirements, tests and currency benchmarks.<<

hmm. i don't mind about bondage riggers. i'm talking about Masters (with a capital M! but yea. that's a good idea too. there should be a membership card and uber seekret handshake!

i like how the guild doesnt list 'bondage Masters' in their list of examples :D

experience. oh yes. good one! i cant create the ultimate list by myself you know! (not a Master-List-Maker). hands-on practice is very good to note.

hmm... so if you accidently strangle the rope-ee, then you've got insurance. or drop her on da head or something... yeah. that's good. international coverage!

on a more serious note, i think it was claire that posted to my rant a few months ago about the Master bondage guy that fucked up my ribs for a couple days. she mentioned an SF based rigger that dropped a model on her head. she was put into the hospital with torn neck ligaments and some spinal injuries i believe? did you hear anything of it?

Yes I've heard of both of these, but through other (credible) people and not directly from the model. Hollie Stevens herself, however, told me about another rigger in LA (not the one mentioned in the other incidents BTW) who dropped her on her head and caused serious neck damage.

People are starting to sue. I knew it was only a matter of time before this at-your-own-risk hobby would start to catch up to people. This is why you will never catch me publishing a BOOK about rope suspension. Too much liability.

You do that! I'll be there in muy utility kilt with some fuzzy handcuffs i got at hot topic. There was this dude at dom con last year, ummm somathing .. Oh yeah, Marquis De Velmont, shit you not the guy had painted grey streaks in his hair with poster paint, and had splatterd some on his leather vest.

in other news, I think neither rigger nor rigee should be doing anything in publc unless they are in better than average shape, (that's Shape US not Shape EU, that's never going to happen here..) If you are trying to rig a 200lb ballerina, and the biggest thing you lift from day to day is a PS3 controller (see what I mean?), you should never put yourself in a liability situation.

Dude, that's so true.
Yeah he was like a cheeseburger LA version.

I was at Lair in No-Ho once and this 130lb guy was trying to "rig" his three bill lady friend. he knew some knots, but when he got her up, I could not watch after the crossmember she was hanging from began to skreek under pressure. He totally quagged and had to get other people to help her down...
At least he had the humilty to ask for help.

Do I need to toss my baby blue rope too?

Hay! Pirate shirts are white!
Can I wear a pirate shirt with a black utility kilt?
I don't care what you say, being a bondage master is a one stop shop at this place:

Oh yeah, and a goatee.
