Heh.

This is why my business card reads, "Bondage Engineer."

Point-by-point:

1. a complete knowledge of the various bondage styles out there.

Absolutely, though I'd rewrite it a little:

1. A comprehensive grasp of the aesthetic and mechanics of the various bondage styles.

2. complete history of bondage, including the history of where it came from, be it from tying up prisoners in historical japan, or the first time some creepy guy purchased duct tape for wrapping over his victim's face.

Ok, sure, but this is extreme. Required knowledge for a 'Bondage Master' can be limited to all available historical information. Of which there is LOTS.

3. knowledge of every knot done by man, their uses and purposes (which ones are made for easy release, which ones are for blocking, etc). i'm not talking a few, i'm talking all of them.

This doesn't make sense - bondage isn't about knots, it's about restraint.

4. sail.

Same here. What does bondage have to do with sailing?

5. celtic knots too!

What about the other applications of weaving? Net-making? Macrame? Basket weaving?

6. knowledge of the human muscular system, the skeletal system, circulatory system, and nervous system. (don't forget the feet and extremities!)

Yes, absolutely. A working knowledge of human anatomy is critical to a 'bondage master.'

7. the ability to read each subjects non verbal clues exactly.

No arguments here.

8. oh, and a knowledge of physics and mechanics. applied engineering also helps. what with the need to know about forces and stresses, pulley systems, etc.

Yar, I agree completely. Tension, balance, angular stress, torsion, compression - lots of complicated mechanics in bondage, especially suspension bondage.

9. artistically inclined. i have the ability to arrange a person and the rope in a way that's pleasing to the eye (thinking about photoshoots here)

Photos or not, I agree. The various bondage style have unique aesthetics, and a 'bondage master' should be able to capture any of them.

10. keep that skill up at the drop of at hat and on the fly (thinking about live performances here).

Performance or not, I agree with this one as well. Adaptability, versatility, and creativity are critical characteristics, and anyone without enough technical skill to improvise certainly isn't master-class.

11. a good performer that knows how to read an audience and adapt to the various cultures and countries (seems some audiences are more verbal than others).

I don't see the ability to perform as critical to mastery, though I believe those that achieve mastery (of anything) tend to develop the ability to demonstrate it with flair.

12. a good top (for when those duties are called upon).

Again, this is functionally very appropriate, but does a 'bondage master' really have to be dominant? Or even capable of faking it?

I don't see bondage as requiring D/s or SM - 'bondage master' describes a narrower category to me.

13. can communicate with or without speaking. (eye contact/gestures/grunts - sometimes it's just too loud).

Skill in communication needs to go both ways. A master should be able to both read and send subtle, non-verbal signals. In fact, much of a master's communication is often pre-conscious, trained behaviors and instincts. There isn't a for deliberate communication (verbal or otherwise) after enough practice, paying attention and making corrections, a master anticipates and adjusts intuitively.

14. the ability to not make others break out in hysterical laughs the moment they see me.

Any master of anything draws respect, even from those unaware of the master's abilities. It's a confidence thing - people at the top of their game regardless of the field are taken seriously.

Though accurate, this can be considered an evaluation question: "Am I laughing hysterically? The person I am looking at is not a master."

15. oh, and i am not a fan of pirate shirts. (it's a bit superficial, but screw it).

There should be rules about who can buy those things. And where they can be worn.

1. oh you go on with your fancy wording. i'm suffering too much jetlag at this point. !!!

2. why not be extreme? especially since, at the moment, i'm thinking of certain extreme examples of individuals that like to prove their Masterliness in mind.

3.Oh, yes. i should have clarified, i was refering to those that practice the rope arts . Though in my 'making fun of/rant' thing here, i'm also not explaining that most of the self-titled Masters i've met through my travels are usually those ShibariMaster types.

4. Most of the knots i've ever learned came first from my basis of sailing. practical usages and being able to automatically tie something (with the right knot) at a moment's notice when needed was really helpful to learn. And since Dan mentioned it below, I think rock climbing should be added too.
(plus being tied to some rock or on a fancy boat in the middle of an ocean sounds like fun to me!)

5. underwater basket weaving too. yes. in case you want to tie your victim up and restrain her inside of one!

10/11. again in my travels, i've seen more and more Master-types taking to the stage. either in nightclubs or in more private workshop settings. being able to perform and present seems to be becoming a bit more important nowadays.

12. that's up to the person he's topping and it depends on the scene i suppose. for example, at certain events, the audience just wants a big ole show (suspension, drama, acrobatics). in other events, they prefer a show based on the interaction between two scene players (i usually dont do those type of shows).

i personally think i'm a good bondage performer bottom type, but i'm not a very good submissive. at least, i dont think so. hmm. yea. probably not.

14. you know, i've noticed that. and i think it's really cool to see.
i was at a group event, post clubnight out. all of us went to eat. there were the loud drunks and... i dont remember the details exactly, but the ended up being silenced. yes. it's the way one commands respect rather than demands and asks for it.

15. how about kilts? oh wait, those aren't kilts. those are multiple floggers hanging off your belt!
