I was not planning on voiding the warranty on my arcade stick until my new buttons arrive. Unfortunately, it seems that my C button has died prematurely. Since I don't want to be without my stick, instead of sending it in to be repaired, I opened it up and switched the R1 and circle buttons.
The FightStick SE is every bit as easy to mod as is rumored. I took off the plate, pulled the wires off the button plugs, and popped out the buttons. While I was in there, I also switched the wiring for the R1 and circle buttons, so that I don't have to remap buttons when playing non-SF fighters. I still have to remove the extra buttons, but that seems like less of an annoyance.
I hope that my new buttons come in before the tournament. If they don't, I hope that I have enough buttons to play with at that point.
EDIT: Which is not to say that I'm unhappy with the stick. I now have the new parts that I ordered, and they're working great. I'm really glad I bought this stick, and it's really nice and easy to mod, which is what I wanted. It's just that the buttons that come with it are bad.
