The day I met you

Summary: Desperate for Her daughter life, Hyukjae take a drastic decision to leave her boyfriend behind and start anew in a new city. She was hoping that her past will never haunt her. Her life starts to change drastically. She did find happiness but will she found love too?

Chapter 8
Hyukjae went home to get a shower and change her clothes. She drinks a cup of coffee since she haven’t be able to have a sleep two nights a row. Coffee is a good resolution to fight back sleepiness. She then pack few of Hana’s clothes, toys and toilettories. When everything is ready, she goes to the hospital again.

“Mommy..” Hana’s voice greet her when she arrive. “Hey, baby. You’re awake. How are you feeling? Better?” Hana slowly nod her head. Her body is still red; her lips, eyes and ears are still swollen. “My face feels funny.” Hana said. Hyukjae kiss her daughter.
“Better?”
“Em.” Hana replied with a nod.
Then the doctor come is with a few nurses. They check on Hana and can see that she’s recovering fast. “This is a present for our strong girl.” The doctor gives Hana a colouring book. “Yea!! Thank you.” Hana chipped happily. “You’ll be okay. Just stay away from peanut butter next time, okay?”
Hana laughing face switches to nervous. “What’s wrong baby? Do you feel hurt anywhere?” Hana shakes her head.
“Am I in trouble?” Hana ask. Her eyes refuse to look up to Hyukjae and Sungkyu.
“Why?”
“Mommy said don’t eat them. But it looks so delicious. In the TV, I saw a girl like me eating them and she look so happy. And I want to try. I go up the chair and see the one look like in the TV in the ‘icey-box’ (refrigerator). I try a little bit. It’s so yummy and I eat more… Then, I don’t know.” Hana explain herself and cover half of her face with her blanket.
“Shh. Just don’t do that again okay. This is the reason why mommy doesn’t want you to eat peanut butter or any nut related food. Because mommy doesn’t want you to get sick. Can you promise mommy?” Hyukjae said. “Promise.” Hana said with a small nod.
“I’m sorry mommy.”
“You have to say sorry to Nanna too. She’s really scared when she sees you “sleeping” in the kitchen.” Hana turn her eyes to her Nanna. “I’m sorry, Nanna. I don’t do it again.” Sungkyu kiss her hair. “It’s okay. You’re okay now. But no more peanut butter.” The three of the laugh at Sungkyu’s words.
Hana once again become the bubbly and cheerful Hana. She force Hyukjae to call Sungmin so the man can come and visit her in the hospital. Hyukjae did call him and let Hana to talk to Sungmin.
Hana was so happy when Sungmin came and do more little magic for her. She get a lot of present that day. From Sungmin and the others.
When the night come, Hana went to bed early. Hyukjae and Sungkyu sleep with her in the hospital. Not long after Hana is asleep, Sungkyu fall asleep on the sofa. Hyukjae and Sungmin are still awake in the room and watch Hana sleep.
“He talks to me about you and Hana last night.” Sungmin start talking when there is only silence.
“I try to explain but he don’t want to listen.” Hyukjae said.
“Let him be for now. I already explain for you. Don’t worry.”
“He’s angry, isn’t he?” Hyukjae ask.
“You can say that.”
“Am I going to get fired from the job?” Hyukjae ask again.
“I don’t think so.” Somehow that is a relieve for Hyukjae. But suddenly she remember something. “Oh, shoot. I forgot I have a report to submit tomorrow.”
“Didn’t you apply for off days?”
“I did. But he still want me to write some reports and submit tomorrow and then back here. He said I can take a long off days as I wish.”
Sungmin sigh when he hear what Hyukjae had said. “It’s late. I don’t think you’ll be able to finish it.”
“I can but I don’t have a computer.” Hyukjae point at the files on the table.
“Wait here.” Sungmin walks out of the room and come back with his laptop. “Use this. I take it back tomorrow.”
“But Sungmin, I..”
“Just use this. You can print them out either here or at your office. I come and fetch you. Bye, Hyukkie.”

Like always, Hyukjae stay up all night just to finish her report. She really don’t want Donghae to think bad about her. She will prove to Donghae that she is not like the others like Donghae thought.
It was almost dawn when Hyukjae finish her report. She checks on the sleeping Hana before she asks for the nurse on the counter to help her to print the report that she had. Lucky her, they are so willing to help.
Hyukjae woke Sungkyu up before she’s off to work. Hana haven’t wake up yet. So she only kiss her goodbye.
Not long after that, she get a message from Sungmin that he is already waiting in front of the hospital. Hyukjae rush out. The sooner she sent the report the sooner she’ll be with Hana again.
“Coffe?” Sungmin offer. “Thank you. I really need them.” Hyukjae said. I’m going to drop you off. But I can’t send you anywhere else. Sorry.”
“It’s okay, Sungmin. You’ve done so much already.” Hyukjae bow and say thank you to him when they arrive at Donghae’s company building. She check her watch and it is already half an hour past 8. “I’m late.”
She knocks on Donghae’s door and find Donghae behind his desk; concentrating on his work. “Sir, here is the report.” Hyukjae place the file in front of Donghae. DOnghae nod at her and point to his left. “As usual. And you can leave now.”
Hyukjae take the file and head to the door. Before she went out, she stop her tracks and look back at Donghae. She put the files down. “I know you’re angry at me right now. You have the right to be angry since I’m not completely honest with you.” She said.
“Please leave. I’m busy.”
“No, you have to listen first. I don’t know what your problem with women like me is. But I don’t think it is right for you to make a conclusion that everyone is the same. Each person has their own qualities. I’m not saying I’m perfect. I know I have my flaws as well. I am Me, sir. I’m not anybody else. I have my own strong points. I do have my own weakness too. I’m human. Isn’t human not supposed to be perfect? We make mistakes all the time. That is nature. But we learn from it. We make out something positive out of it. I wish I can tell you what happen in my life. Because, my past is not so pleasant as well. I can assure you, I’m not a bad person. I have my responsibilities. For Hana, and for Sungkyu ahjumma. You can cut my salaries for how long I take my leaves. I won’t mind. You can put me in another department. It is okay for me. You can even fire me, sir. I just want you to know that I am not up to no good. I will earn your trust and your respect all over again if I have to. You’re my boss. I’m only an employee. It is your decision, sir. I’m sorry for all the trouble that I have caused you.” Hyukjae bow respectively to Donghae, take the files and walk out of the room.
She takes a deep breath. “Okay. Prepare yourself for what will happen next, Hyukjae.”

“Mommy, mommy.. Can we play outside? I’m bored.” Hana whine. “Did you finish your meals?” Hana nod. She’s already on her knees on the bed. “Medicine?” Again Hana nod. “Hm.. I don’t know if it is okay since you’re sick.” Hana pout. “But mommy….”
“Let me check.” Hyukjae put her palm on Hana’s forehead. “Okay. That is normal. Say Ah..” Hana open her mouth wide. “Looking better. Raise your hands, please.” Hana obediently raise up her hands. Hyukjae put her palms on Hana’s armpit. “It’s okay too.” She smile mischievously at Hana before she starts to tickles Hana there. “Hahahahaha.. Mommy.. Ticklesss..” Hana’s laugh echoes in the ward. Sungkyu shakes her head looking at them both. She is preparing Hana’s coat so that the little girl won’t be cold when she’s outside.
“Hahahahahaha..Mommy…Hahahahha..please….hahahahaha..” Done with the prank she put on her Hana, Hyukjae stops and kiss her nose. “Okay. We can go outside. You look better.”
“Mommy, doctor didn’t check me like that.” Hana whine again as she put on her coat. “I know. But mommy is not a doctor.”
Unknown for them three, someone is watching them from the door. When they are ready to walk outside, the figure retreat from the door and hide. Then the figure also follows them to the playground at the hospital.

Donghae can’t concentrate on his job. He can’t help but to agree to what Hyukjae has said. But his heart doesn’t really want to admit it. After launch hour, Donghae told her secretary that he won’t be in his office till tomorrow.
He drove to the hospital and go to Hana’s room. He watches the family from the ouside. Since the door is not completely close, he silently watching Hana and Hyukjae talking, Hyukjae reading stories to Hana, Hyukjae singing with Hana, and Hyukjae playing with Hana.
Somehow when he hear Hana’s laugh, he unconsciously smile. He keeps on watching them from the door. When they decide to walk outside, he hides next to the vending machine and then follows them to the playground. He keeps his distance and make sure that Hyukjae didn’t realize he’s there.
Hana happily swinging on the swing and Sungkyu push her from behind. She will giggle happily when she manages to do high-5 with her mother. Then, they play with the slide.
Not long after that, Sungmin came. He can see Hana run happily to Sungmin and kiss him on the cheeks. He can hear clearly how much Hana squeal every time Sungmin do his magic. Hyukjae too. Donghae stare at her. Hyukjae didn’t look at Sungmin at all.
Her eyes are all on Hana.
When Sungmin was about to leave, he gives something to Hyukjae but Hyukjae didn’t accept it. He saw Sungmin persuade her to take it from him but still she refuse. At last Sungmin give up and put the thing back in hin pocket. He leaves a moment after he do another lollipop magic for Hana.
Donghae sigh. “What is wrong with me? I don’t need to stalk her.” Donghae said to himself and retreat from the scene. That night, he kill his time in a bar and get wasted.

Like always, Hyukjae wait for Hana to go to sleep before she do her work. She went home that day and leave Hana and Sungkyu in the hospital. She told Sungkyu she’ll be back after she’s done writing her reports.
Like always, it take her all night to finish her work. When it is done, she takes a shower and get a glass of coffee. She grabs a cab and head to the hospital first. Today Hana will be discharge. When she arrive, Hana still asleep and sungkyu is right next to her.
“She hasn’t woke up yet. She looks so much better, but child, you look so tired. Did you sleep last night?” Hyukjae smile at her. “I will later. Don’t worry about me, ahjumma”
“You have to take care of yourself too. If something happen to you, Hana will be so sad.” Sungkyu rub her back up and down.
“I know. But I’ll be fine. I promise.” Hyukjae said. “I have to go now. I’m going to be back fast.” Hyukjae then get a cab and head to the office.
She didn’t say much this time when she meets Donghae. She hands in her report and takes back few files like she always did.
“She’ll be discharge today. I will report back tomorrow sir. Thank you for understanding my position. I appreciate it so much sir. I’ll work hark from now on.” Even she knows that DOnghae won’t look at her, she bow down before she leave.
Donghae read the report that Hyukjae just send in. She did great even though she has to look after Hana in the hospital. He sighs and leans back on his chair. “One last chance.”

Hyukjae do some shopping and decorate Sungkyu living room for a celebration of Hana’s coming back home. She bought a cake and hides it in the fridge. She then orders chicken wings and other junk food. After satisfied with the decoration, she head back to the hospital to pick Haha’s up.
Hyukjae carried Hana in his arm when they almost arrive at Sungkyu’s place. Before they open the door, Hyukjae tell Hana to close her eyes. “No peeking, okay. Or Mommy will give your present to others.”
“Em.” Hana said cheerfully.
Sungkyu open the door and help Hyukjae and Hana to get in. “not yet.” Hyukjae said. They are both sitting down at the living room in front of a table full of food. Sungkyu goes to the kitchen and get the cake, lit the candles up and put it in front of Hana.
“Okay. You can open your eyes now.” Hana peek from her tiny hands first. As soon as she sees the cake, she screams loudly.
“Cake!!!!”
“Welcome home, pet. Now make your wish before you blow the candles.” Hana clasp her hand together. “I wish I don’t go to hospital again.” She said and gives her best in blowing the candles.
“Look around you. Mommy makes you a surprise.” Hana look around and squeal happily at every decoration that she laid her eyes on. “Thank you mommy. Thank you Nanna. I love you…” She said; hugging the two women so tightly. “Who’s hungry?”

They were enjoying their meals when suddenly the door bell rings. They look at each other. “I don’t think we’re expecting any guess. Are you?” Sungkyu ask Hyukjae.
“No. I didn’t either. Or is it your family coming?” Hyukaje ask. Suddenly feeling anxious.
“I don’t think so. They always come on the last months every year. And they always call before visits.” The door bell rings again.
“Coming.” Hyukjae look at Hana and the little girls just smile back. “Mommy, yummy..” and then she giggles.
“Hyukjae, I believe he is your guess.” Hyukjae and Hana both look up at the same time.
“Sir???” Hyukjae stands up immediately when her eyes meet with Hyukjae. “I heard someone is getting out of the hospital. Sorry, for dropping by so suddenly.”
“No, take a seat.” Hyukjae offer a cushion for Donghae to sits. “I believe the person is you and I have a present.” Donghae shows a medium size of teddy bears to Hana. “It is for me?? Really??” Hana’s hand almost reaches out for the cute teddy bears but then stops her acts. “Mommy, can I have them?”
“Er.. I don’t know. Sir, you don’t have to get her any present.” Hyukjae said and that make Hana pout. “But, mommy, I love teddy bears.” She points at the doll in Donghae’s hand. “You can have it.”
Donghae shove the bear to Hana and Hana gladly take it. “What should you say, Hana.” Hyukjae sigh.
“Thank you, uncle. For the present. I love it so much.”
Sungkyu serve Donghae’s with cakes and chicken wings. They start to eat again.
“Are you my mommy friend?” Hana ask curiously. As far as she knows, she never meet Donghae. “I..uh.. I’m her boss.” Donghae didn’t know why but he is feeling nervous.
Hana scooted closer. “Boss?” She look at her mother in disbelieve and at Donghae again. She rose up from her seat and touch Donghae’s face.
“Hana, you’re not supposed to do that. That is not polite.” Hyukjae said.
“Mommy, he look like us. he is not a monster.” With that, Hyukjae’s eyes widen and she gasps loudly. “Oh shoot. Now I really am in trouble.”

Hyukjae do some shopping and decorate Sungkyu living room for a celebration of Hana’s coming back home. She bought a cake and hides it in the fridge. She then orders chicken wings and other junk food. After satisfied with the decoration, she head back to the hospital to pick Haha’s up.
Hyukjae carried Hana in his arm when they almost arrive at Sungkyu’s place. Before they open the door, Hyukjae tell Hana to close her eyes. “No peeking, okay. Or Mommy will give your present to others.”
“Em.” Hana said cheerfully.
Sungkyu open the door and help Hyukjae and Hana to get in. “not yet.” Hyukjae said. They are both sitting down at the living room in front of a table full of food. Sungkyu goes to the kitchen and get the cake, lit the candles up and put it in front of Hana.
“Okay. You can open your eyes now.” Hana peek from her tiny hands first. As soon as she sees the cake, she screams loudly.
“Cake!!!!”
“Welcome home, pet. Now make your wish before you blow the candles.” Hana clasp her hand together. “I wish I don’t go to hospital again.” She said and gives her best in blowing the candles.
“Look around you. Mommy makes you a surprise.” Hana look around and squeal happily at every decoration that she laid her eyes on. “Thank you mommy. Thank you Nanna. I love you…” She said; hugging the two women so tightly. “Who’s hungry?”
“Me!!!”

They were enjoying their meals when suddenly the door bell rings. They look at each other. “I don’t think we’re expecting any guess. Are you?” Sungkyu ask Hyukjae.
“No. I didn’t either. Or is it your family coming?” Hyukaje ask. Suddenly feeling anxious.
“I don’t think so. They always come on the last months every year. And they always call before visits.” The door bell rings again.
“Coming.” Hyukjae look at Hana and the little girls just smile back. “Mommy, yummy..” and then she giggles.
“Hyukjae, I believe he is your guess.” Hyukjae and Hana both look up at the same time.
“Sir???” Hyukjae stands up immediately when her eyes meet with Hyukjae. “I heard someone is getting out of the hospital. Sorry, for dropping by so suddenly.”
“No, take a seat.” Hyukjae offer a cushion for Donghae to sits. “I believe the person is you and I have a present.” Donghae shows a medium size of teddy bears to Hana. “It is for me?? Really??” Hana’s hand almost reaches out for the cute teddy bears but then stops her acts. “Mommy, can I have them?”
“Er.. I don’t know. Sir, you don’t have to get her any present.” Hyukjae said and that make Hana pout. “But, mommy, I love teddy bears.” She points at the doll in Donghae’s hand. “You can have it.”
Donghae shove the bear to Hana and Hana gladly take it. “What should you say, Hana.” Hyukjae sigh.
“Thank you, uncle. For the present. I love it so much.”
Sungkyu serve Donghae’s with cakes and chicken wings. They start to eat again.
“Are you my mommy friend?” Hana ask curiously. As far as she knows, she never meet Donghae. “I..uh.. I’m her boss.” Donghae didn’t know why but he is feeling nervous.
Hana scooted closer. “Boss?” She look at her mother in disbelieve and at Donghae again. She rose up from her seat and touch Donghae’s face.
“Hana, you’re not supposed to do that. That is not polite.” Hyukjae said.
“Mommy, he look like us. he is not a monster.” With that, Hyukjae’s eyes widen and she gasps loudly. “Oh shoot. Now I really am in trouble.”

The chapter is up. I read a book 'My bestfriend's girl' - (If I'm not mistaken) I get the ideas from there as well..not really copy and paste but there will be similarities..
