Moving forward, stumbling back

My S.O. was in a car accident about 2 weeks ago. His car is totalled. We are dealing with the dance of the I surface companies about it.
At the end of last year, I was struggling to get my car's plates up to date. It needed more work than it was worth, so I sold it off.
So we were a 2 car household, then a one car household, which worked ok since he works nights and I work days.
Now we are a no-car household.
Fortunately we have generous friends. After his rental ran out, we were able to borrow vehicles for a bit.
(Interesting that it takes 10 business days to get an official police report, but the insurance companies only pay for a 7 day rental.)
So yeah, not fun.
We are looking into options, but I know for certain that our budget won't support two car payments and two cars worth of insurance payments.
I have more on this subject; see next post.
So if you have a good recommendation for any of the following, feel free to comment or contact me directly. We don't really know what we want, and have a limited amount of free time to rest drive cars.
1. Make/model of a car. He likes an actual sedan sized vehicle. He's not picky about color, but he really likes a smooth drive and seat warmers. He also seems to be into the tinted windows. Let me (or him) know if you have a good recommendation for us to check out.
2. Make/model of car part 2: I drove big cars all my life but the Prius taught me what can be accomplished with a hatchback. I freaking loved my Ford Fiesta, which suggests that I ought to I bestigate a Subaru, I guess? I had been a donestic-only person until the Prius came into my life, but I can't afford an old Prius, I think. I've driven a Yarris, and I didn't care for it. (It feels... Cheap and toy-lije in a bad way.) So if you have information about a make/model you think I should look into, give me a heads up.
3. Dealers. I probably can't even afford anything on my beloved Lou Fusz's lot, so I'm looking for recommendations for other dealerships. I won't go back to Elco, they were bad. Suntrup was worse. Is there a little neighborhood dealer you know? Ate there more to avoid?
