[ When Hibari woke up from an afternoon nap in his new house on 5719 Cunningham Lane, it was pretty clear from the get-go that he was definitely not where he was when he fell asleep. But instead of doing the logical thing and calling somebody -- relying on others is something he isn't interested in, after all -- his first reaction was to just get ( Read more... )

Squint harder. It might go away if you do.

[ He looks like he's trying that, actually. Seems a bit disappointed it's not working. ]

This is unacceptable.

Odd. It's always worked on small children and fluffy animals for me. Perhaps buildings are immune.

... It doesn't matter, it's only bricks and cement in the end. [ Which means it's destructible, of course.

He speaks again, though mostly to himself: ] Once I find who's stolen my tonfa, something will have to be done about this.

I'm going to have to strongly discourage that line of thought, if only so as to spare myself the cries and moans of your friends over your inevitable brainwashing.

... Is that supposed to be some kind of joke?

[She had figured as much. The boy was new.]

Susan Sto Helit. Miss Susan, if you would.

Miss Susan, then. [ In his eye's, she's been accepted -- not terribly annoying, seems level-headed, and doesn't seem squeamish about things. ]

Hibari Kyouya.

A pleasure.

Would you like to know anything else about this town? You seem quite at ease with this unusual situation.

[Hibari, too, has found approval in Susan's eyes. No screaming or yelling about having to get home, no hysterics about being kidnapped. Sensible boy.]

Not especially. It's an inconvenience, but tolerable... for the time being.

Tolerable. It's a good word, but be aware that it crosses that line into unbearable quickly and often.

'Unbearable' is a word for herbivores. As long as you survive, that's all that really matters.
