So many grew round me, through me,
from my self, as it were.
I became a channel, unleashing a force
called man.
Did not the others crowding in, distort
the man that I am?
Being each of them, always imperfect,
myself to myself too near,
he who survives in me, can he ever
look at himself without fear?
He was a good man. I didn't agree with his stance on various things, but I still saw him as a symbol of what was supposed to be, somehow, right in the world. Those morals and values that our 'role models' try to impress upon us, regardless of our Understanding of what we think of as 'Spiritual'.
I didn't agree with him, but I respected him for knowing who he was in his heart. It was apparent in his poetry that he saw the imperfection of himself as a Vessel, yet knowing the Calling he felt. It takes courage to heed that Call. To think of it now, how difficult it had to have been on occasion... probably more than just 'on occasion' to be loved by millions as a Leader, yet reviled by millions more... having to be out in the public eye despite attempts on his life. I do not think I could have done the job even in my MIND, and my mind is much stronger and more creative than I am in reality.
I do not envy those who have to find a successor for him. He was a man of Peace, who saw his own Holy Father as we who were reared in Judeo-Christian homes were told we should in our own education/indocrination (however one looks upon it)... that He is Everywhere.
I am not a religious person... far from it. I did, however feel the need to salute the Man behind the Papacy. My heart goes out to the Catholics in the world. That's all.
This was written in 1944, an excerpt from "At the End of Shores of Silence"... In a world surrounded and engulfed in war, I am moved by the Peace he was able to convey. Go with God...rest in Peace...
"I thank you for giving the soul a place far removed from
the din and clamor, where your friend is a strange
poverty, You, immeasurable, take but a little cell,
you love places uninhabited and empty."
Thank you All for allowing me to share my thoughts about this today... Life is Good. *hugs*
