Yesterday Raine's babysitter started classes, and her schedule didn't work out quite as she had expected. She stopped by to let us know that she won't be able to take Raine to her dance class anymore, which is unfortunate. I've really enjoyed those mornings with just Mica, and don't relish entertaining him while Raine dances, but we can muddle through. At least she told me as soon as she knew. This afternoon, though, she just didn't show up. She was supposed to be here over an hour ago, and she hasn't called or anything. I tried calling her but her phone isn't working. I imagine that with starting classes and all her schedule has been thrown off, and I can remember being equally flaky when I was a teenager. Still, I'm pretty irked, and am considering figuring out some kind of alternative. It has certainly given me motivation to follow up with the preschools we are on the waiting lists for.
I think I am extra frustrated, because we have tried to hire people to do things for us this summer in an effort to reduce stress, and the results have been decidedly mixed. We hired a maid service for a few months, and it was so nice to have the house cleaned regularly and thoroughly, but they kept breaking things and not even having the courtesy to tell us about it. Discovering broken glass on the kitchen floor two days after they cleaned was the final straw. Mica is crawling and getting into everything, and I would frankly rather have him find old nasty food than broken glass.
We're also trying to have someone else paint our house. They've pushed back when they're going to do it a couple of times, and now are scheduled to do it this weekend. I'm crossing my fingers that the weather cooperates and the job actually gets done, since we are quickly approaching fall, which makes finding a few dry days more and more difficult. I really don't want to end up painting the house ourselves, but it absolutely must be done before winter this year since we've got an entire panel of unpainted exterior out front. And so I cross my fingers and hope that this time the people we've hired will actually be reliable.
