My how fast they grow...

On Monday I took the kids to the doctor. Mica for this three-month appointment and Raine for her three-year check up. Technically Mica was just there for shots, as part of our plan to space out his vaccines, but the doctor wanted to weigh him anyway, since he had visibly grown in a month. He now weighs 16lb while Raine weighed in at 31lb. Since birth he's gained about a half a pound a week. If he keeps this up he'll be too heavy for his car seat by six-months. Raine, in contrast, outgrew her car seat in length at ten or eleven months, and actually remained rear-facing past one year because she still wasn't twenty pounds.

Mica is likely to catch up with Raine in weight in the next year, but there are other ways for her to stay ahead. When we were leaving the doctor's office, one of the receptionists came around to look at the baby, but was quickly diverted (without Raine doing anything) by Raine's shoes--we bought Raine a dashing pair of sparkly silver shoes around Christmas time and she wears them everywhere. The receptionist insisted that Raine go around the desk to show the shoes to her coworker. And the Raine proceeded to charm the heck out of them both, leaving the extremely cute baby completely ignored. The conversation went something like this...

Receptionist: Look at your pretty shoes.
Raine: I call them my tap shoes.
Rec: Tap shoes?
Raine: And I have a party dress for my birthday.
Rec: Your birthday! How old are you going to be?
Raine: I'll be three.
Rec: And when is your birthday?
Raine: Mardi Gras.
*I blink in surprise, since we'd never directly told her that*

I just hope Raine isn't too confused next year, when her birthday isn't on Mardi Gras.
