Four months old

Raine turned four months old on Sunday and had her four month well baby check-up yesterday. She now weighs 14lbs 6oz and is 26 inches long (give or take). She's in the 75% which is reassuring. She seems so little, mostly because she's on the skinny side for a baby (breastfeed babies tend to be leaner.)

I've updated the online album, though I still have a couple more pictures to add. I hope to do that in the next few days. May was a truly crazy month, and June is shaping up to be just as exciting. maxemulien's parents are coming out for a visit next week, and while it will be lovely to see them, I always feel obligated to clean house for the in-laws, especially since this is now where their granddaughter lives.

Anyhow, the babe seems to have grown by leaps and bounds this month. She has much better control of her hands and actually reaches out for things. Playing (which is to say grabbing things and sticking them in her mouth) has suddenly become a self motivated activity. She has also (just a few days ago) developed the knack for rolling over from her belly to her back on her own. It may not seem like much, but it is a sure sign of things to come.

I also wonder how much her current outgoing nature is a sign of things to come. Between flying to the west coast and my grandmother's funeral, Raine experienced a whirlwind of social activities this month and she seemed to thrive on them. While we were in Illinois all my relatives kept commenting on what a cheerful baby she was. She handled all the strangeness and strangers very well. As maxemulien noted, she's more outgoing than either of her parents. It will be interesting to see if this is a phase because everything in the world is new and exciting for her, or if she really will be a social butterfly.

Part of traveling, and I think part of finally having the sun set so late, has been a serious shift in her schedual as well. She has begun to think that eleven is a great time to go to bed, which really isn't so great for her parents. I'm hoping to establish a firmer bedtime routine, but we'll see how that goes. Routines aren't my strong suit.
