Sometimes I wonder about people

My company has a pretty easy return policy.
Things can be returned within 90 days for most things.
Some can only be returned within 45. Like electronics,
cameras, DVDS and stuff like vaccumms. After that you
need to contact the manufacture for repair or replacement.
Items with a copyright have to be unopened or you can only
exchange them. That's ( Read more... )

I worked retail for several years when I was much younger. It was a well-known, high-end department store and customers knew no one would challenge them on a return. It was quite common for someone to "buy" an expensive dress, wear it to whatever event they needed it for, then return it - wrinkled, perhaps with spills on it or torn - and say it didn't fit and they needed to return it. I don't know who they thought they were fooling, but the store always took them back, so I guess if you have no shame....

Yes, we get those as well. Plus we get people who take tags from a cheap item and put it on a more expensive one. If you don't look closely at clothes sometimes they get away with it.

I worked for WMT for years. If a customer got loud they would just give them whatever they wanted to get rid of them. I work for the other chain now and they do follow policy better. Some managers will give in, but most stick by the policy.

Bloody hell, I do not know how you cope with customer service at all, I would be in a straight jacket in 5 minutes flat covered in the blood of a customer just like the one you describe. You are epic for managing it!

*hug*

I began working in retail at sixteen. I've had lots of practice with weird customers. Most are really nice, but some do try your temper.

Well, they have you boxed in so you can't just walk off. They know you can't say what you would like to say. I have been known to stare them down over the counter. LOL!

LOL! I had to laugh about the guy returning the game because he didn't like it.

Years and years ago I did that with a PV VHS tape. I actually phoned immediately after watching the tape, the manager happened to pick up the phone. I said it was the worst movie I'd ever seen in my life, and that I had no idea it was going to be that awful because the cast was great. He laughed, agreed, said he'd seen it and completely understood. He told me to bring it back the next day. I can't recall if I was given an exchange or credit for another, but he did tell me that it wasn't their policy to accept returns because the movie was bad, but he'd seen the movie and felt the same way.

I haven't thought of that in years!

I don't think I could work in customer service. When I was younger maybe, but now that I'm old and grouchy, no way. ;-))

Copyright laws are very strict now so we can't just give them what they want. Some even try to fool us by using cling wrap. How dumb do they think we are? LOL!

Oh yes. You should hear and see some of the things people try to get away with in retail. It's why we have to have posted policy.

We are much stricter than Wal-Mart. I worked for them for 19 years. They would cave to someone who yelled in the store or threatened to call the home office. I still get people who try to say things like "Wal-Mart would do this." I finally got fed up one day and said "We are not Wal-Mart." to one of them. A manager was standing next to me. When the person walked away, the manager broke out laughing.
