today was a very good day at school. in softball we had an epic faceoff between the two teams in my class. now in case you didnt know, the people in my gym class are the jockey douchebags who get all into PE sports (i.e. ryan pepin, mike neary) so my team won 12-11. and everyone shat their pants and jumped up and down. i look around, to at least find one person who finds this as stupid as me and there was NO ONE! it was such a sad display of human conduct. it was funny though. adam soltoski went up to bat one time, and he was all excited he finally hit the ball, and then it was caught, and he turned and looked at us with the most adorable puppy dog face and dropped his head. i thought it was cute, it reminded me of when we were younger. he just looked really young. its too bad that i dont care for him.
english was definitely very cool. we talked about 1984, we had to go around and give our little 1 min overview of the book and what we thought of it. i talked about the power of persuation. its funny how when you read the book, you think about how absurd it is that BIG BROTHER was able to have as much power as they did, but if you think about how it is in todays society, we're not all that far off. for example, if you have read the book, then youll know what im talking about. but in the end when they sent winston to room 101 with the rats, we were allso shocked and appalled that something like this was allowed to happen, without realizing how it happens right infront of our eyes. a little background: room 101 is where theyd send people who were against the party into torture to change them for the party. room 101 was your worst fear come to life. for winston, it was rats eating his face. in fact, what we learned today, was in iraq, a method of torture some american soliders were doing, was making these muslims masturbate, and perform homosexual acts on one another, then photograph them and post their pictures everywhere in public. and in the muslim religion, homosexuality and masturbation is highly forbiddin, and to be forced to do such acts, ended up breaking them down and ironically a couple of days after we heard about the torture, we located this large gas bomb. it was as if the american army made their own room 101, knowing that the muslims worst torture would be making them do things such as that. for me, it seemed as if BIG BROTHER'S system of breakdown was genius. it started with societal pressure. having almost an entire nation against you can be tiring on the mind, and can cause many to break down and go along. for those who are stronger, they put them through such scrutany, without them realizing it. they do this by telling them that they are contantly watched, and any original thought they have they could be "vaporized" for. the when o'brian (who i think was working for the party in a huge conspiracy) showed winston his deteriorating body in the mirror, i think it was then when his mental state started to break down because he realizedthat hisf ight was so impossible thta is was weraing down on his physical condition. by that time he was taken into torture, already weakened, and then they could do their systematical torturing procedure, bringing him to rooom 101, and turning him pro BIG BROTHER. i found out that mr harak has been actively researching and protesting american warcrimes since 1990. hes had some stuff published so hesaid tomorrow that hed dig up his stuff from his house and let me read some of it. if anyone is interested in having a copy of it, let me know. its really some very interesting stuff about things that america has done that noone knows about. so yeah.
