I love cortisone!

As most of you know, in November 2007 my right knee underwent a traumatic experience, which resulted in a torn meniscus and partially torn ACL, surgery in December, and still not fully recovered in April 2008. My left knee has been my "bad" knee for years, with several annoying but not disabling fighting injuries and a couple of dog running me over incidents (he was younger then...).

So, just after June Crown, my left knee started REALLY hurting. I was in Berkeley for a week, a little colder and wetter than I am used to, and Eilis also has a bad left knee, and there are the stairs at the apartment...

I put it down to three days of walking on slippery hay without falling down and the above-listed environmental changes, and started taking Naprosyn and glucosamine.

Got home, two weeks of hot (REALLY - over 100 hot) although not as dry as it has been (downright damp for June/July in Vegas - it even rained) - no stairs, no sympathetic pain, no slippery hay - and it hurts worse, especially when I am SITTING DOWN!! SERIOUSLY!!! When standing or walking, only a little, sitting or standing up from being seated - 8 out of 10! C$%P!

So, I went to see the PA who assisted with my surgery in '07; he took an xray, and plain to see - bone degeneration and cartilage compression/erosion - look ma, it's arthritis! He gave me a cortisone shot and told me to look into some cushioning fluid injection therapy after I get to Cali and have health insurance.

My knee felt numb and bloated after the shot, and was back to the same or a little less pain by bedtime. But, getting up to let the dog out at 1:30 - NO PAIN!!! Wooo Hoooo!!!

So, I love cortisone. I hope it holds through the move next week, and then I can find a doc in the bay area to either get more or do the fluid replacement thing.

Medical marvels...
