So, this weekend I went paddleboarding with my Mum and we both actually stood up and paddled. It was wonderful! And tiring, even though we were only out there for an hour an a half. It was fun being out in the ocean.
On our way back, we were caught in a traffic jam. We were in one place for so long that Mum could actually turn off the engine while we waited. Turns out that there was a recent accident ahead of us. From what I could tell when we finally drove past the scene, it was car meets motorcycle meets car. I do hope that they are okay. There wasn't anything on the news.
Then, on Monday, the portion of the highway that enters and exits our little town was closed. Apparently, someone was driving the wrong way on the highway. My entire family was speechless. Understand, to go the wrong way on this particular stretch, you must make a concerted effort. You can't drift over the median -- it's a cement wall. I don't know how he did it, but he did. The police were called at 4:30am, but they didn't have the scene cleared or the highway open until around noon. Also, there are only two ways out of my little town. Two. That highway and another one on the other side. That's it. Instead of being my usual 30-45 minutes early, I was barely barely on time. Eech.
In between one weird traffic anomaly and another, there were cookies. Soto came over in the afternoon and we, being the wonderfully brilliant yet lacking in common sense women that we are, decided to choose two drop cookie recipes in cookie cutters. Yeah . . . the peanut butter cookies came out a little poofy, but they shaped pretty easily. The graham cracker snickerdoodles went phweee and spread like a map of viral incidence during a time of a raging epidemic (sorry, reading Deadline by Mira Grant right now and epidemiology is on the mind and also, zombies -- this book is utter love and the review of "apocalyptic summer read" is perfect!). The cookies retained little to none of their shape, but tasted pretty good. I want to make a different version with the same flavor concept -- graham crackers mmmmm. :D
Summer school is nearly over. I don't know if this group is going to finish their projects on time. They are remarkably slow and unfocused as compared to the other group and many of them just don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say even though I explain the same thing three different ways. :\ I'm still going to push them to finish what they can, the bast they can. And we'll have to just see what gets produced.
I'm tired. I'd like a day off. A bit of downtime and auditing my to do list and catching up on some little things that are piling up that I need to do. End of this week, then I'll have my mornings free! \0/
