Ever since my trip to Paris last year, I'd been curious about flower flavoured items (ie lavendar, rose, violet). I didn't try it over there because I didn't want to look stupid and spit it out if I didn't like it. I would have been especially disappointed if I gagged on the lovely bite-sized macarons from Ladurée.

A few months ago, I went to a local Persian restaurant called Shahrzad. We tried the Persian ice cream made from saffron, rosewater, and pistachio nuts. I instantly fell in love with it and went on a search for more things made with rosewater or lavender.

During my search, I happened to find more rose flavoured items rather than lavender, but then I came across a brand of ice cream called Mashti Malone's. Seeing that Whole Foods carries the brand, I decided to check it out and I bought a pint of lavender. It had been sitting unopened in the freezer since sometime in November. I decided to give it a try this weekend and I instantly heaved. It was like sticking a bar a soap from Crabtree & Evelyn in my mouth.

Either Mashti Malone's makes a terrible ice cream (way too strong) or I have a serious dislike for lavender in my mouth. If anyone knows of something with a more subtle lavender flavour, I'd love to hear about it.
