So after 28 years, four months and thirteen days, I'm getting into the family business.
No not the Mafia. I'm getting into promotions.
It appears that after last years horribleness of canceled shows, half houses and other sorts of promotional nightmares, one of the playwrights who my parents have been patroning from years has not only decided to produce plays, but he's trying to muscle in on my parents' home turf of South Florida. Combine that with his son (about my age, maybe a bit older) taking over the role of local promoter and trying to steal the idea my mom's been trying to have done for years (have a local playhouse running plays weekly rather than quarterly) my ire has been irked.
I think this morning I would have let it go if it had just been Basil (the playwright) doing all of this. Yet when I learned of Chris' (the son) involvement I felt it behooved me as a son to step up. This just became a family thing. I have enough of my mother in me to take this slight to heart. So. Ya. I'm sending out invites. I'm gonna start doing Twitters (shudder). I'll be taking over the role of online marketing. It was due to happen I suppose.
So ya... this months play is now my play. I've gotta push it and possibly see about getting my own scripts going. If I turn into the next Tyler Perry, y'all know why. It happened.
Come See the show if you're in the area by the way.
