Weird patrons at the library...

OMG! This week! *giggle snort* *shakes head* At least the weekend was great? :-D

I’m of the philosophy that you can either laugh or cry about things that happen. I usually try to laugh at weird stuff happening. So that’s what I’ve been doing this week at work. Suitable, because I had my 40th birthday this week to!

Monday one of my colleagues told us that one of our regulars is going to lose his apartment and felt horrible for him.

This man btw is a refugee and claims he's a doctor, always wants to come discuss politics from his home country, always dress very nice, always carry a briefcase, well dressed (but with a lot of clothes even in summer)... Claims though that everyone he has to deal with is SOOO rude and OBVIOUSLY racist! Not us librarians though. Strange that.

Anyway, he’ll end up homeless. A shame, and we do feel sorry for him, but what can we do? More than give him advice on where to turn to?

We find out that the apartment he’s been living in for 17 years is… a student residence… only for students. 17 years… *shakes head* Did I mention that this man is probably in his late 60’s?

Right, so onwards.

Apparently the guy that owns this apartment is a friend of his, so he gave him 11 months before he had to leave, but he hasn’t found anything. (Lack of trying???) And he is unemployed, because of course. And he claims the social services doesn’t give him any help because they’re SO RUDE! (Implying they’re racists as well.)

And so he asked us if he could keep a briefcase in our storage with his laptop and his important papers in it? Acting desperate and so my colleague, who was afraid he’d collapse right then and there, said sure, sure… A briefcase is fine. We have room. Collect your papers and come on Monday.

Monday arrive. I work my first day together with another colleague as well, so there’s three of us.

He arrives and asks to use our small baggage wheels. Then he returned… with two big moving boxes! And instead of returning the baggage wheels, he apologized and said he’d return with some more… And did so, the briefcase, a plastic bag… and ANOTHER moving box!

Me and colleague go: WTH????

And it’s continued like that. My other colleague, older and from the same country originally, went above and beyond to help him.

We’ve all given him suggestions on what to do, who to call. But we mostly just get the response that everyone are so RUDE and hard to talk to. (Again, implying everyone’s racist.)

Finally my older colleague got her husband (!) to take the car and drive all his things to a storage and helped him pay up the first rent.

The other colleague has TRIED to help him sign up for different sites to find a new apartment, but he just can’t do it not even after we’ve shown him how to several times on very simple sites, he just doesn’t get how to do it.

We’ve all agreed on that it seems as if there’s something wrong with him. He can’t do ANYTHING on his own! He needs someone to stand RIGHT next to him pretty much holding his hand and telling him in detail what to do.

Also, he revealed his not a doctor but has studied at a medical university, just not as a doctor. Well, hello there. Why am I not surprised.

All he seems to want to do is discuss politics. Especially the politics of his home country. Online and in RL. And he never stops.

Anything else and he doesn’t know how to do it. Or how to deal. Also, it’s everyone else's fault and everyone’s a racist and/or rude. Except librarians, apparently. We’re good and nice. (Even me, purple hair, black clothes and all. I’m surprised I haven’t been called a racist…)

I did mention this man is in his late 60’s?

How even??? He’s been our favorite topic of discussion, because seriously??? *shakes head*

At least this first week hasn’t been boring? X-D Because we have more of these strange characters coming to this here library… X-D

Also, I had a lovely visit from my mom, her gentleman caller and my MIL on my birthday. :-D We had a really lovely time with nice food and all. And I got some NICE flowers as well! The HUGE birthday bash is going to go off start of August! :-D

The weekend has been lazy and nize. The biggest event was shopping groceries, pretty much. Good thing that, next week I’m going to the yearly post apocalyptic LARP. It’s going to be AWESOME!!!
