Four years ago I was all over screaming about politics and the election and blah blah blah. This year I've taken a much more head-in-the-sand attitude because it all just hurts my soul. I'm ridiculously non-confrontational and unlikely to engage in non-lolzy debate, but I like keeping people informed so... here's my deal:

Cut for people not interested in commie pinko wankmongering. )

You're practically Canadian! Except you actually have a voice in the election. I have to watch from the sidelines and hope that it all goes well.

I -am- practically Canadian! Well, two generations removed Quebecoise but the roots go back a couple centuries before great-grampy married a New Yorker. Whoops.

*salutes* I shall do my duty happily. Assuming I don't lose my mind before the election.

Oddly, I am also a two generations removed Quebecoise and I agree with you completely.

My confrontational wanky response:

Pistachios suck! :P

Them's fightin' words.

DVD commentary on the pistachio thing: my roommate is an atheist uber-liberal feminist and our mutual drinking buddy is a Catholic uber-conservative "life was better in the 50s" guy. Their debates at the pub get... shall we say strident? So I took up my moderate position as "I like pistachios" as a tension-breaker.

Bring it on! I'll stand up for my belief in cashews and almonds. Though I do enjoy pistachio pudding...

Hee, fun. I sit squarely on the fence with most issues, which actually makes me one of the most liberal people I know. Mostly I just shrug my shoulders.

I'm with ya on everything but the capital punishment. Oh, and the pistachios.

And I find McCain's VP pick very entertaining. Right after everyone gets done asking, "Uh... who?" they will be saying, "Oh, right. He picked her for all those allegedly thousands of inconsolable Hillary supporters."

To quote a poster on Fark.com: "Palin? She has the same body parts I have! I shall vote for her. No, no, I don't need to be troubled with any of that scary complex politics stuff or how irrelevant the VP position is. Vote for the woman, yup, that's what I'm going to do."

i am astounded by the blatant cynicsm of his VP pick, and the fact that it's so obviously insulting to women of whatever stripe. I mean, who could possibly look at this ticket without saying, "Oh, obvious attempt to court Hillary voters. And any other woman who can't look beyond her own gender"? It's staggering.

Yeah, it is kinda interesting to me too. I mean, Obama doesn't pick a woman.. goes for old guy I've barely heard of (sorry, I'm Canadian and well, I've been paying attention to Obama/Hilary/McCain... but meh. I had read Biden wasn't being considered, then he's is VP running mate..
So on the other side, the old guy McCain choose a woman with not much more experience than Obama... it's definitely an interesting race. Full of precedents in one way or another.
