Well, not a rant so much as a musing.
WMNF, our local NPR station, is awesome. They have a show Wednesday ngith with the guy pat Chambers which is all really old jazz and blues and rockabilly. Then from 11-1 Sunday to Thursday ngihts is the 11th hour, with crazy alternative rock. it's where I get all my pretentious stuff like Kinky and the Stranglers and Fiery Furnaces.
But not Gotan Project. My Hotan project love came from the artists comment's on
this piece of fanart. And "Triptico" is the fuckin' shit.
And now some selfishness: I have this annoying habbit of being an attention whore and so do not need much cajoling to perform kareoke. I kinda like it, actually. I shall now present a list of my performances and my own harsh ratings of them:
1. "Everybody Wants To Rule the World," Tears for Fears, at Crabbit's Pub in Spring Hill, circa 1992. Sung with Elaine Wieczorek. Dude, I was maybe 12. This gets a c.
2. "Tainted Love," Soft Cell, on Royal Carribean's Rhapsody of the Seas, Feb. 2002, between Cozumel and Key West. Fantastic. Not my best ever, but as this was my "official" karaoke song for ages, I give the execution a B.
3. "Bent," Matchbox 20, same venue and night as above. Shamelessly, I love this song. And I pretty much kicked it's ass. B+.
4. "Time After Time," Cindy Lauper, see above. Erm... the voice just don't work that way. C-.
5. "99 Red Balloons," Neena, on Vision of the Seas, I think between Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan, November 2003. See above, re: my vocal range. I do this much better in the car. C.
6. "Girl Just Wanna Have Fun," Cindy Lauper. Some party or another for work. Performed with Erica Gault and the rest of my training class (even the guys). See abvoe, re: me trying to sing Cindy lauper. B-.
7. "With Or Without You," U2, at Charlie's in Tampa, April 2004. Knocked out of the fuckin' park. Every note nailed, total brilliance on my part. A.
Currently, I'm thinking I could get away with "Ain't Misbehaving," and I'd love to try and kick out some Franz if they have it available. I would LOVE for someone to be able to do "Anything You Can Do I Can Do better" with me.
And I'm bored again. Obviously.
