1. What are all the different media you use to communicate (e.g. email, LJ, IM, phone, face-to-face, webcam, etc.)? IM, email, LJ, phone, face-to-face, the occasional snail mail card or letter and very rarely by webcam.
2. Which is your preferred medium in general? Why? When it's good, I love face-to-face conversations. You're able to get a better sense of reaction and emotion that way, and there's also a shared consciousness or whatever, so you can like, joke about stuff going on around those you're conversing with, rather than, for example, over IM where it seems sort of silly to say certain things because the other person's not there, or something. Lately though, more often than not I just find myself fumbling over words and feeling like I'm not answering people the way they'd expect me to, so anything involving writing feels more comfortable to me.
3. Which is your preferred medium for communicating with your friends? Your family? At work? Why? With friends, probably IM or email, just because it's what I've gotten used to lately. With family, I don't mind using the phone, unless they're just going to sit there saying nothing for extended periods of time. Which happens to me on a regular basis. :P
4. Which is your preferred medium for communicating that you're angry, upset, or hurt? Why? Email, probably, because that way I seem better able to formulate my thoughts. If I try speaking about something when I'm very upset, I usually get overloaded and start crying or something.
5. Are there any media that you find difficult to use (e.g. being anxious about calling people)? Which ones, and why? I'm definitely not a huge fan of the telephone. It seems kind of pointless to call someone "just to chat"; I'd rather make phone calls with some specific purpose. Though I often have difficulty doing that, too - I tend to have to dial phone numbers several times, giggling and hanging up each time like a moron, before I feel brave enough to let it ring. I don't know. I don't like the phone. :P
