Winter HyouteiMyu Two Day Report

Dec 26, 2005 03:14

Hey all! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!! =0D Well, I finally got around to typing my report on The Imperial Match Hyoutei Gakuen in Winter 2005-2006. I'll soon be posting pics from Japan. ^_^

Fangirl Squeals Thoughts From a Tenimyu Newbie
Okay, so I'm not really a newbie when it comes to Tenimyu. I've seen all the musicals to date and the backstage clips from the DVDs. However, I am a newbie in terms of going to Japan (I've already been there once, but that's another story) and watching the musical LIVE.

So, with that said, if any of you even have a chance - a possibility to watch the musical in person - DO IT~! Don't hesitate. You definitely won't regret it. All the waiting, walking, and jet lag is worth it. I was a bit skeptical myself (y'know, all the money it costs to go there plus money for the actual tickets), perfectly content in reading reports and watching the DVDs, but now I'm afraid I've become addicted to watching it live. ^^;;

12/19 - Monday
Well, first things first. I'll report on the first showing I watched. It was the opening showing of the musical in Tokyo with St. Rudolph guests Akazawa-buchou and Kaneda. The musical opens with a short cheery dance number with Sengoku (Wada) and Yuuta (Kenn). Wada is wearing reindeer ears and Kenn is wearing a Santa hat. Kawaii~!!! XD Instead of a big screen, they make it so you can see through the background to the two St. Rudolph players who are practicing in the back. (I know I'm not explaining it very well - you guys will get it when you see it. XDXDXD) They make some Christmas jokes, most of which I can't understand. ;________; But their expressions more than make up for it. Did I mention I was in seat 1 E-9? I was on the first floor and so close! I could see their faces pretty clearly without having to use binoculars or anything. *squee!*

There is a lot of new and improved choreography. I really enjoyed watching the actors when they're in the background. So, when someone is explaining a technique or something, I found myself watching what the other actors were doing. For example, when Fuji is explaining something in Act I, Eiji (Adachi) is actually balancing his racket on one finger as he listens. =0D I don't know if anyone noticed that before, or if you can even see it on the DVD, but personally, I found it really amusing. (I was also impressed! Balancing a racket is harder than it looks... or maybe it's just me? ^^;;)

The Ichinen change their song a little bit. Actually, the next day, I found myself singing the redone intro to it. (The words don't change, but they sing it a bit differently. =0D)

When the Golden Pair make up after fighting, they both say "Gomen" as everyone knows. But after a brief pause, Eiji (Adachi) suddenly slaps Oishi (Suzuki), saying "Baka!" (Idiot!). Of course, the audience immediately laughs 'cause it's so unexpected. Oishi chases Eiji off the stage, both of them smiling big as he retaliates - "Konoyaro!" (You bastard! - or something along those lines...).

During the 2nd Ichinen song, instead of the freshmen singing, Akazawa starts it from offstage before he and Kaneda finish it onstage. ^_^ A funny surprise!

Gakuto (Aoyagi) actually messes up the 'Katsu wa Hyoutei, Makeru no Seigaku' song. ^^;; He interrupts Oshitari (Saito) before his partner can start the chant, and realizing he messed up, Gakuto starts with a weak "-keru no Seigaku." But they get back into it quickly. Eiji also messes up though. XD After Gakuto does an impressive flip type thing (I am so bad with names for acrobatic moves. >_<), Eiji does a cartwheel, but he loses his racket along the way, leaving it on the ground, so he has to imitate a hit to the opposite side without his racket! ^^;; But again, the actors are really good with continuing and not letting a little mistake mess up their acting.

During the Doubles 2 match with Gakuto-Oshitari versus Kikumaru-Momo, Gakuto jumps off Oshitari's shoulder! Yay for the acrobatics! Everyone was pretty amazed by that, so it kinda overshadows Eiji, who jumps off Momo's hands right after the Gakuto-Oshitari move. Gakuto is also jumping all over the place - y'know how he jumps really high? Eiji watches him for a moment and then imitates the same jump - except, of course, exaggerated, but still funny. ^_^

Eiji and Momo lift Ryoma off the seat again before the start of Fuji's match, but what makes it funny this time around, is that they lift him really high. At least on Eiji's end, so Ryoma's legs are actually higher up than his head. XD Then they drop him again.

In the Singles 2 match with Fuji (Aiba) and Jirou (Takuya), Oshitari is the only one embarrassed when Jirou doesn't realize he has to change court sides. XD Everyone then stares at him as he sits back down. Oh, and after Fuji wins a set, Jirou is still so impressed by him. He runs up to tell his teammates. He runs to Atobe, who points him to Oshitari, who points him to Shishido, who points him to Gakuto, who points him to Hiyoshi, who then waves him towards the audience. XDXD

At the end of Act I, Kaneda is the one that has to go to the bathroom and Akazawa tells him to wait up as he runs after him. ^^;; Yuuta says something funny after they leave, but I couldn't understand him.

There is a new random tango scene at the beginning of Act III. Atobe is practicing on the outside tennis courts when his coach comes up in the background. You get a close up, but they black out his figure so you can't see him. XDXD Then as Atobe continues to practice, his coach is doing the tango solo in the back. ^^;; At the end, a kanji flashes on the screen and everyone laughs, but unfortunately, it was a kanji I didn't know. ;_______; Che.

Tezuka (Shirota) and Atobe (Kato) have a new number where they blend their songs together, which is very cool. They jump off and back up on the lifted part of the stage. I adore this duet! *______*

Then, of course, there is this new awesome, amazing, fun upbeat song at the end after the curtain call. I heard "Oh My Day" but it might be "Oh My Way"? XDXDXD Can someone clarify? ^^;; Man, I feel a little stupid... Anyways, this song rocked. Okay, I just wanted to dance along with them. The choreography was also really great - a lot of flips and energy all around the stage! It started after the curtain call - the whole audience went really quiet as the curtain raised again to an empty stage. I could feel everyone, including myself, waiting with anticipation. The song starts off slowly as the actors walk from different directions on stage. From my angle, I could see Shishido (Kamakari) and Ootori (Date) shake hands briefly as they pass each other. =0D Hehehehe... Anyways, it was a nice slow intro, but I was hoping it would pick up - and it did! Boy, did it. After the actors walk back where you can't see them, the music suddenly picks up, and Seigaku runs out, coming back on stage with a variety of flips and impressive dance moves. All the actors are wearing silver shiny fabrics on their right wrists, which totally fit the song. XD Towards the end of the song, some of the actors run out into the aisles! Yay! Especially because I had an aisle seat. I was mentally freaking out as Akazawa passed me. I had an up-close view of Katsuo (Hotta), but I had to turn around to see Akazawa (Aoki). He was close but still further down the aisle.

EDIT: Yes, it is "Oh My Way". >_> I have bad hearing. XD Sorry~!

Oh yeah, back to the curtain call. I was really looking forward to this because I know some of the actors do fun stuff. ^_______^ From my angle, I could see a bouncy Takuya (Jirou) ready to come out from behind the curtain in the back. When he finally does, along with Kawai (Hiyoshi) and Washimi (Kabaji), Washimi trips on the green carpet on their way up the stage! XDXD

The Hyoutei doubles partners come out, and as they go up the stage, they hold hands, much to the fangirls' delight. Saito (Oshitari) takes off his glasses, but he drops them on accident. ^^;; When the doubles partners leave the stage, Aoyagi (Gakuto) trips and gets up quickly. XD The Dirty Pair (Is that what they're called? I'm so out of it when it comes to the fandom naming of the different doubles pairs.) was particularly clumsy that day. ^^;;

Anyways, Kato (Atobe) is heading up the stage when this happens, and so he stares after Aoyagi with this puzzled look that makes everyone laugh. Then, of course, he does his cool backflip, which still rocks no matter how times you see it, live or on DVD. He calls the Hyoutei members back on stage with him. Saito ends up arguing/talking (?) with Aoyagi and Kato gives them a look, which makes them shut up, and the audience laughs again.

Wada (Sengoku) makes that cute heart with his hands.

Aiba (Fuji) does his cool dance moves.

Araki (Inui) comes out on stage holding his Regulars jacket. After waving to the audience and taking off his glasses, he kisses the jacket and hugs it close as he jogs off stage. XD Kawaii~! Heh, and yay for Inui! He's a Regular again~! ^_~

Shirota (Tezuka) does his signature curtain call - he takes off his glasses and blows a kiss to the audience. ^_^ That never gets old either. ^^b Yanagi (Ryoma) blows a kiss and waves big with that cute look on his face.

When the whole cast comes out on stage and after they bow, they wave to the crowd. Aoyagi and Saito slap at each other's hands. XD Kato also pushes Kaji (Momo) forward and he ends up stumbling. ^^;;

Oh and back to the upbeat song again. ^^ I forgot to mention some things. As the song really starts to pick up in its rhythm, the actors come out in pairs, either the doubles partners or rivals (i.e. Shishido-Ootori come out together as does Atobe-Tezuka). When Kato and Shirota come out running, they make faces and jab at each other with their fingers, which makes everyone laugh. Then, towards the end of the song, but before they run out into the aisles, Shirota comes out on stage with a handspring from the right. A second later, Kato comes out with a handspring from the left. =0D Everyone is really going all out, especially the buchous. Takuya and Aoyagi are also all about the flips in this song. ^_^ When the actors run back on stage after being the aisles, they all kind of merge together. Kosuke (Kaidoh) and Kamakari (Shishido) seem to size each other up, before turning as one and smiling big at the audience. During all this of course, the audience is clapping and cheering, so I'm really glad I caught that moment. There's a lot of stuff happening on stage, so my eyes were flickering everywhere. XD

At the end, I think Tezuka says something along the lines of "See you tomorrow". XD J/K, but I did hear him say "ashita", which means "tomorrow". O_O;; Man, I really need to work on my Japanese. I'm much better at reading and writing than listening comprehension. *sigh*

All in all, it was amazing to see all the actors in person. (Let me just say, they are even more gorgeous than their pictures. XD) Actually, I also think there was someone famous there in the audience (maybe someone from a previous Tenimyu?), but I couldn't see them from my spot. I could tell though cause a lot of the girls in the audience were looking towards the back. ^^;;

In the lobby, I also saw a trailer-type clip thingy for the PoT Live Action movie and it looks really cool. Like, seriously. I'm a little disappointed in Shishido's look, but that's probably cause I got so used to Kenta Kamakari's look for him. ^^;; Even so, I totally plan on buying the Live Action movie when it comes out on DVD, even though that won't be for a long while.

The photo sets for this musical were also really good (heh, sexy is a better word). They have shots of each of the actors in character, doing something that their characters would actually be doing - like Shishido in his Hyoutei school uniform balancing a racket or Inui with his chemistry set. ^^;;

Anyways, I am definitely buying this musical on DVD, along with the CD for the kick-ass new songs! I also hope there are backstage clips this time around. This musical topped the summer version, but I think it's really the best out of them all. I'm so glad I got to watch it a second time too.

Bottom line: BEST. MUSICAL. EVER.

12/20 - Tuesday
I watched this showing with my dad this time. We were on the first floor, seats L-50 and L-51. I had another angle view but this time from the right instead of the left, but it was still pretty good. This showing featured Fudomine guests, Ishida and Sakurai.

Anyways, Nagayan (2nd Eiji) and YOH (2nd Tachibana) were there! I could see them from my seats if I turned around slightly. I definitely spotted YOH first just because his hair is blond now. Then I saw Nagayan come in after him. Actually, there was someone else with them, but I didn't recognize him unfortunately. I'm sure it was another Tenimyu ex-cast member, though.

Some things that happened in this showing that I didn't notice before:
- In this showing, Gakuto plays his racket like a violin in the 'Katsu wa Hyoutei, Makeru no Seigaku' song.
- After Gakuto-Oshitari win a set, Ootori lifts his hand up towards Kabaji, who is standing on the other end of the bench. Pause. Then Kabaji gives him a high five! XD
- After Ootori-Shishido win and they return to the bench, Ootori lifts his hand up for a high-five from Hiyoshi. Hiyoshi gives him this 'are you kidding?' look, but after a moment, reluctantly gives Ootori's raised palm a light punch with his fist. ^_^
- When the Hadokyuu match goes on between Kabaji and Kawamura, (with the especially loud sound effects) whenever they hit the ball, Jirou twitches (big twitches) in his sleep. ^^;;
- Momo and Kaidoh do 'Jan Ken Pon' to see who will stop Kawamura in burning mode.
During Atobe's 'Ore-sama no bigi ni bugi wugi' song -
- When Atobe blows his kiss to the audience, Kabaji faints, but so does Ishida in the background! XD He falls into Sakurai's arms and his doubles partner tries to wake him up. I don't know if this happened during the St. Rudolph showing, but if I had to guess, Kaneda probably fainted, though it would've been hilarious if Akazawa did.
- When Hyoutei runs to the other end of the stage while Atobe sings, Jirou accidentally runs into Kabaji, who stopped. Then Oshitari bumps into Jirou. Shishido almost bumped into Oshitari. Jirou falls down and gets back up as Oshitari and Shishido begin to argue. He tries to calm them down, but they turn as one toward him, and both push him towards the edge of the stage, and he pretends to almost fall off.
- Still, during Atobe's song, Shishido is fighting with Kaidoh. The Seigaku regulars have to hold Kaidoh back as he tries to kick Shishido, who walks away coolly.
- Jirou and Gakuto also bust out new break dance moves with each other as Atobe's background dancers.
- Later, after Hyoutei loses and they bow to the audience - the actors split and leave the stage, running in opposite directions - Shishido and Hiyoshi accidentally run into each other. The audience laughs, and while it was funny, it was kinda out of place for the dramatic moment. XD

Curtain Call:
- Kabaji, Hiyoshi, and Jirou enter, waving their arms like chickens
- Hyoutei doubles partners enter, then hold hands again. Yay! Saito (Oshitari) takes off his glasses successfully this time as he bows to the audience. As they leave the stage, Aoyagi (Gakuto) does a little tumble roll.
- Atobe comes and gives a kiss to the audience, but doesn't do a flip! ;_____; I was so surprised that I thought I actually might have blinked and missed it. XD However, to make up for not doing it, in the ending song, when he and Shirota (Tezuka) come out doing handsprings, Kato (Atobe) does a handspring, then a flip in immediate succession. ^_^ Yay for Kato!!!
- When he calls the others on stage with him, and then Hyoutei leaves, Jirou jumps on Oshitari's back and gets a piggy-back ride! Fun!
- Kotani (Kawamura) does a little robot move. ^_^
- I didn't expect much from Adachi (Eiji) because he usually comes out, bows and smiles, and leaves. This time, however, he came out with a giant teddy bear! =0D Kawaii!!
- Aiba (Fuji) and Suzuki (Oishi) both do one handed handspring type flip thingies. XD;;
- Tezuka, Inui, and Ryoma do the same thing they did on the Monday showing
As everyone comes on stage -
- the Hyoutei team is doing a little train-type thing (like a conga line with their hands on the next person's shoulders) as they come back
- Miyano (Ishida) is on Wada's (Sengoku's) back getting a piggy-back ride. Toyonaga (Kachiro) is also getting a piggy-back ride from Takagi (Sakurai). =0D Piggy-back rides seem to be the fun element of the evening.
- When they all bow, Kenn (Yuuta) raises up his leg really high behind him.
- Some of the actors try to trip each other as they bow. XDXD
- Kato (Atobe) pushes Kaji (Momo) forward again.
- They all wave until the curtain closes, seeing who can wave the most until the curtain closes all the way (they actually didn't do this during the Monday showing). Fuji falls on the ground, but I think Gakuto is the one who wins! ^_^

Heh, "Oh My Day" still rocks.
- Some of the actors give each other little high fives as they pass each other.
- When the beat really gets going, Seigaku enters with a lot of flips and tumbles like the day before.
- Different actors run into the aisles.
- On my side, I had Horio and Kachiro, who were the closest ones to where I was sitting.

For some reason, I was always drawn to watch Kujirai (Kaidoh). ^_^ I think he's really grown on me. I also really liked the Fudomine guest stars much better than the St. Rudolph guests, even though everyone still did an awesome job. The Fudomine guests however, especially Miyano (Ishida), are really funny with their facial expressions and the way they deliver their lines. I thought they were much funnier than St. Rudolph. Personally, I hope it's the Fudomine guests on the DVD, though I haven't seen how the Yamabuki guests do. However, the second showing doesn't beat the first experience and delight I got with the first showing.

Heh, I want the CD and DVD already, but they don't come out until late March, I believe, but don't quote me on that. I just remember seeing a poster already advertising it in the Akihabara Animate shop. And I did check the poster. It wasn't for the first Hyoutei musical, it was for the winter version. =0D Hmm... I know I'm already forgetting a lot of funny stuff... ;__;

Still, I LOVE Tenimyu! Oh and I was wondering... what does 'mata to de' mean? ^^ Just curious. ^_^

Anyways, I do want to see another musical live again. ^^;; It won't be for awhile though. It was already amazing enough that my parents let me go this time. I mean, I wasn't even into Tenimyu, let alone Prince of Tennis, six months ago! Look at me now! O_O I'm a dedicated fan. If I can, I hope I can watch the Rikkaidai musical, whenever that may be. I know there will probably be more musicals before they even reach the Rikkai arc (hey, they might even have another Dream Live, who knows? *shrugs*), but I want there to be a lot of time before I return to Japan, if only for my parents' money. ^^;;

Tenimyu wa daisuki desu yo!

japan: tenimyu, fandom: reports, manga: prince of tennis, japan
