“The way you count the steps of the waltz is easy…” The vampire instructor said softly coming to stand in front of Nino her hand on his chest as she tapped him lightly with the three eats for the waltz “So simply as it is 1,2,3 - 1,2,3. There is a strong accent on count 1, so most figures start on that count. All the beats in the Waltz are equal and the tempo is usually slow…” She said repeating what Ohno had already heard so many times throughout his youth when his parents had insisted that he take lessons when trying to fit in with the upper class human lords. He had been rather good at it, and enjoyed it even if his instructor had been completely intolerable. He didn’t want Nino to know that he had already had lessons though knowing that it would make him uncomfortable.
“My lord…Please take your date…And I will teach you the box step…Which is the most fundamental dance step in the Waltz. To learn this step, you just need to imagine you have a box in front of you and then you going to step on the corners of the box…” She said drawing and imaginary box around them as Ohno’s arm slid around Nino’s body to rest on the small of his back while his other took the small chunky hand his in his own “Yes…Very nice…You…Should place your hand upon Lord Ohno’s shoulder little one...Yes, just so…Now…Begin…Gently stepping on the corners…1,2,3-1-2-3…Lift on the 1…Yes…That’s right…” Lola smiled happily as they began moving. Ohno was a very confident lead and Nino followed to nervous perfection following him around the imagined box. “With this you should also get a good demonstration of the “rise and fall” technique which is used throughout the Waltz…Very good my lord…”
“Thank-you…” Ohno smiled happily glad that he had retained some of his skill though he had to admit that he felt a little rusty and clunky as he moved around the floor. Nino’s movements though were matching his in a way that none of his previous partners had managed to do and he very nearly added a turn before they had been shown it. “Are you enjoying yourself?”
“I’m trying but…I’m afraid of stepping on your toes…” Nino answered as they continued the 1,2,3-1,2,3 movements and Ohno chuckled moving them a little faster.
“You can step on my toes, Kazu, I promise that I wouldn’t feel it if you did but…You should have more confidence…You seem to be doing well…”
“Indeed you are…” Lola said with a happy clap as she finished sounding out the steps a knowing gleam in her eyes and Ohno suspected that she knew that he had had lessons before. “Your bodies are deeply in tune with each other…It is sad that you are both male…”
“Excuse me?” Ohno growled darkly stopping moving to hold Nino against his side and Lola quickly put her hands up in submission an apologetic smile flooding her attractive face as she whimpered;
“Ah I meant no offence my lord! I meant only that if you were mixed gendered I think that I would have been able to train you for an amateur competition…”
“Isn’t that a little optimistic? After not even half a lesson?” Ohno huffed as Nino flushed a little at his side somehow looking pleased. He had only wanted a simple lesson for the last part of their date and he assumed that Lola was trying to get him to agree to more lessons at more cost.
“A little perhaps, my lord, but it is rare to see a new couple so at one with each other…It is a pity that there are no same sex competitions…But shall we continue? I think that we should learn the turn next…”
