Life Changing Final

4 YEARS LATER.

Nino yawned loudly as he stepped out into his back garden and stared down at the ocean wondering if Satoshi’s ship had come in yet. It had been four years since his father had found the boy and brought him home. Satoshi had moved out shortly after telling him that he wanted to be good enough for him. To every bodies surprise he hadn’t moved very far, just into the village with Agnes who had adopted him and gotten him a place on a ship. It had meant that although they still lived in the same village Nino, who had been sent to the private school, and Satoshi rarely, if ever saw each other as their time at home never seemed to fit together. Satoshi wrote to him though…His writing was atrocious at first with so many mistakes it was like reading a whole different language but slowly over time they became legible and always they were decorated with the most beautiful drawings and paintings. His room at school had been decorated with them and they had come home with him when he had finally graduated.

He was free from school, free to do whatever he wanted with his life and he had been offered several jobs in the town working in banks and factories but his heart was here in this village and everything was based on the promise that he had made to Satoshi to wait for him. Even if they had rarely seen each other over the years he knew in his heart that he still loved him and wanted him. There had been many people that had asked him when he was at school but none of them had been Satoshi and none of them made him feel the way that Satoshi’s letter did.

“Son…Will you take this to Agnes for me?” Kenta asked gently holding up a brown paper parcel and Nino’s heart swelled with hope thinking that maybe they was his father’s surprise but the next words out of Kenta’s mouth dashed all his hopes. “Satoshi isn’t due back for another week or so and I want to make sure she’s looked after…I’m sorry son, I thought you knew…”

“Satoshi stopped writing to me a couple of months ago…” Nino admitted reluctantly remembering exactly when his last letter had come and then the constant checking for any more but sadly none had come. Letters from Kenta and Julia told him that Satoshi was well and safe but for some reason the older boy had stopped writing to him. Kenta looked surprised by his words though indicating that he had no idea that Satoshi had stopped writing to him. “It doesn’t matter…I’m sure there was some reason…I’ll find out when he comes back…I’ll take that to Miss Ohno now…”

“Okay…” Kenta whispered and Nino nodded with a smile that he used whenever he was feeling upset but didn’t want to show it. The paper parcel jostled against his chest as he walked down the lane towards the village. More than once people stopped him to say hello and the short journey stretched out into almost an hour but eventually he made it to the flower shop that had seen a burst of interest since Satoshi had started to paint pictures to sell during his long trips. In his mind’s eye Nino could imagine himself living here in the rooms above the shop, close to his parents so that he wouldn’t be lonely when Satoshi was away but he doubted if that was going to be the case.

“Miss Ohno? Miss Ohno I brought something from my mother…” Nino called out surprised when instead of the frail old woman Satoshi appeared from the back room. He was larger than he had been when he had first arrived with his arms straining with thick muscle. His face was rounder with a smattering of dark hair on his chin and top lip. His eyes were less manic as well, more easily going…So much so that he had an almost sleepy air about him. “Satoshi? What…You…?”

“…Me…hey, princess…” Satoshi smiled walking over to him “Agnes has moved out…Bernard had a sister and they have decided to take care of each other…”

“I…My father knew?”

“Of course…The old fruit was the one that tracked the sister down…The thing is…Agnes left me the shop…It’s not much…Truth is I’m still not good enough for you, princess…But…I’m tired of not being with you…Marry me?”

“Yes…” Nino answered almost before the question was out of Satoshi’s mouth the bag of whatever it was that his father had used to get him here falling to the floor beside them as he almost jumped at Satoshi his arms wrapping around his neck his mouth finally touching Satoshi’s. Their kiss was shy, hesitant but loving and Nino knew that he could easily become addicted to the sweet taste of Satoshi’s lips and he was going to enjoy a life time of tasting them.

*~*~*~*

Satoshi sighed happily as he held his princess in his arms the way that he had wanted to do for the last four years unable to believe that finally it was happening. It had been his fault that they had taken so long but now he would never let them be apart again. Nino had once said that this village was a life changing place but for Satoshi Ohno it was a life giving one.

THE END
A/N: I really hope that this ending wasn’t too much of a let down…>.<
