It was the year 1878, I was a young man recently discharged from the army with a wounded shoulder. London did not offer much for somebody with only an income of eleven shillings and sixpence a day and I knew that without a second the chances of staying in the capitol would be impossible. I had no kin that I could call upon to help me but a friend…Or rather an acquaintance, somebody that had studied with me at the University of London…Aiba Masaki suggested that I would instead rather stay with another acquaintance who had also been sharing my concerns. Wanting to stay in the city I agreed to meet my acquaintance’s acquaintance the following day and thus this is how I met the man that would change my life…
