The cart appeared to make a music as it hummed along the road Ninomiya Kazunari sang a song occasionally clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth as his tapping the riding whip against the rump of the dapple grey horse that was clip clopping along the street. His fingers were freezing against the reins while his eyes went occasionally going to the seat beside him so he could look at his child who had decided to fall asleep. His head was cocked to one side resting on his hip while somehow managing to tuck his arms up under his head. He looked so cute with his eyes closed and the soft whistling breath coming out of his nose.

“Just like your papa…” He sighed looking back at the road again just as a salty waft of sea air came rushing around his nose and reminding him of his husband. It had been a weeks since he had last seen him and he knew that it could take another couple but he couldn’t stop himself from taking himself and their toddler to the pier hoping and praying that today was the day that his husband was home.

They were an odd couple everybody told them so, he was the son of the local preacher and Ohno Satoshi had been a ruffian from the arse end of nowhere sent to his father as a reform student but they had fallen in love and his love really had reformed becoming a fishermen to support them and eventually the baby that they had adopted when he had been left on the doorstep of his father’s church. Nino shivered just a little and then wrapped the blanket a little more snuggly around the boy before blowing his breath onto his hands trying to get some warmth back into his fingers glad when the dock came into view even more so when he saw that the Dusky Rose, his husband’s ship, was pulling into the dock.

“Come on Nell…” Nino said excitedly flicking the reins a little harder jerking more life into the old mere and speeding her on her way down the hill and down the bank towards the ocean. The jerking woke up his son Jun who blinked slowly looking up at him through foggy eyes as he held tightly to the blanket. “Look at the water…Jun…What do you see?”

“Papa home, Dada?” Jun asked the traces of sleep vanishing from his voice as he excitedly pointed out towards the ocean where the Dusky Rose was getting closer to the shore. Nino knew that they would make it their first as the ship had to be lined up and anchored down but he couldn’t deny that there was traces of nerves inside his heart. They were always close when he had been separated from his lover for too long.

“Yes…Papa’s home…” Nino answered giving a smile urging on the horse. His heart was beating in the same steady beat as the horse’s hooves but soon they were pulling to a hilt as the ship was creaking into her mooring. His eyes went upward to the side of the ship scanning the faces but knowing that it was impossible to distinguish a particular face from this distance. The ship was skilfully put into place and soon jovial voices were calling out unloading goods and themselves onto the dock.

Eventually Nino saw him, the man that he had loved ever since he had first seen him as young scowling boy standing in his father’s office looking like he resented the world and everything in it. He had changed so much since then, the scruffy you kid had become a man with broad shoulders and a tanned complexion. His face was chunkier now and he was smiling instead of scowling but he was still the same person that made his heart sing and took him out of his dark and drab little world.

“Kazu! Jun!” Ohno shouted in surprise seeing him there and Nino smiled getting down from the cart and tucking Jun up against his
side before running to his lover who was already running towards him. They met in the middle and Ohno was soon cuddling them both against his chest his lips raining kisses down onto their cheeks barely giving Nino room to whisper a very heartfelt;

“Welcome home…”
