“How…How am I alive?” Matsumoto Yuichi asked staring at Akaike who in turn looked at Nino who had been busying himself by boiling bandages in more water. He had wanted to stay out of the room while the lord and his pet psychopath were talking but Akaike had refused that idea insisting that he be with them and reluctantly he had agreed. It was strange having two monsters be friends of sorts but it was clear to him that Akaike held some level of affection for his lord even if it was something that he couldn’t quite understand.
“Lord Ohno’s lover…And personal healer…I brought him from the castle and he bargained with death to save you…I saw him do it…” Akaike mumbled and Nino thought about the CPR that he had performed and the words that he had said then. It must have looked as though he was arguing with somebody and it seemed to have worked. “He did the same for Lord Ohno and your brother…”
“And what were the terms of the bargain…? How long might your magic work…”
“My magic will work for as long as you keep yourself safe my lord…I asked for no terms then nor now…I saved you because it is my duty to save any and all that I may regardless of my personal feelings…I ask for nothing in return…Other than perhaps to return to my lord…”
“…Your lord has not come for you in the time that you have been here…It seems that he does not share the same loyalty to you as you show to him…” Akaike said snidely and Nino sighed chewing on the inside of his cheek for a moment before giving a smile remembering the rumours that he had heard around the castle during his stay.
“You set his castle ablaze, sir, and the storms around mount Arashi have been fierce…He would not act rashly…” Nino sighed knowing that his knowledge had unnerved the other man as his eyes were wide for a moment or two before he recovered himself and stared at him with a watchful expression “You would keep me alive to save your lord…He would trust that…I am safer here than I would be had he tried to mount a half-hearted rescue attempt…”
“And now my lord is safe…What is keeping you alive?” Akaike drawled almost lazily and Nino gave a small smile his head tilting to one side. He had been feeling strangely about Akaike for a while knowing that the man had softened considerably around him in the time that he had been here so much so that Nino had been able to see that the was a man behind the insanity. Had Akaike been on lord Ohno’s side Nino had no doubt that he might have even enjoyed his company if not his actions.
“The fact that you haven’t even touched the knife you hold fondly…I know that you could easily kill me, sir, I have long since accepted that…If you were as crazy as you pretended I would be dead already…” Nino whispered trying his best not to show his nerves knowing that Akaike liked that he didn’t “But you know that my lord will come for me and you know that this castle is not equipped enough to stand against him…Your best bet is to hand me over unharmed and hope that my lord may let you leave alive…You were not thinking when you took me…But now you are…”
“Your lord is already on his way…You will go meet him…” Akaike told him before marching across the room and grabbing him by the front of his robes. For a moment Nino was sure that his time had come but he was kissed harshly by the other man and then pushed away “If we had met in different circumstances…I would have made you sing…As it is I will wait till I face your lord again…I will slay him and then take you…”
“My lord would slay you first…”
“Maybe…But it would be worth it…Go take the east path and you should meet your lord on the hill…”
