Full concert update under the cut. There are a ton of pictures, like I promised. ;)
The first act came on at 7:30, which was a nice surprise. His name was Tim… something. I’m frustrated because I cannot for the life of me figure out who he was. He was actually quite good!
After him came Jessie Baylin, who was alright. Her dancing was quite… interesting. I kind of wish I had video of it. (Also, her drummer was wearing a vest with a v-neck shirt. And it wasn’t very attractive.)
Her bassist, though, was a hottie. ;) Sadly, I didn’t get a good shot of him…
MATT! The best part of the concert.
I don’t even know where to start. I think I’ll start with the video. I was standing very close to a group of drunk people. They were a little obnoxious. This is Matt talking to them, just after one of the first songs:

Earlier, he had been talking about Oregon, and one of the drunk guys yelled that he loved Oregon. And Matt replied with: “You love Oregon? Are you drunk?” And he obviously replied with “YEAH!”
I wish I’d gotten more video, but the memory card on my sister’s (now mine!) camera can’t take much video, and I’d promised Emm pictures!
Some of the highlights:
- ‘Jesse’s Girl’! They played a bit of this last year, too.
- ‘Take Me On’ The two sides of the room battled with the chorus. It was intense.
- During a few of his songs, he’d open (or fill parts of the middle) with verses from other songs. In ‘Car Crash’ he used some lyrics from ‘Breakable’ (Fitting, right?). People cheered. However, when he kicked off ‘Sing Me Sweet’ with ‘The Chain’, I basically freaked out. I was the only one who cheered, and he seemed amused. ;)
- Someone yelled "Cheetah Penis!", but Matt didn't hear them. Another person soon after yelled "Beat It!", to which Matt replied "Did you say 'Beat It'? Oh, you've heard my live album. ...I wish I knew how to play 'Beat It'."
- There was a girl who was there for her birthday. They kept yelling it to Matt. He told them he had been politely ignoring them for a whole song while he thought about what to say. It was hysterical.
- He told us that he wrote 'Princess' years ago without knowing that it was, truly, about Gossip Girl.
- Matt declaring that 'Heartbreak World' could be about moving out of Los Angeles "maybe to come to Portland". We cheered so loud.
- He was going to tell us all to vote tomorrow, until everyone informed him that Oregonians vote by mail. He told us that’s lame.
- Telling us that they were going to leave the stage, have us applaud, and they’d come back like they weren’t expecting it at all and play a few more songs. And then the night would be over. To which we vehemently said “NO.” And he said the night had to end sometime. And we said “NO.” again.
- ...the guy in front of me stole one of the set lists they had taped to the stage at the end of the show. FTW.
He closed with 'Come On Get Higher'. I was not amused. :P
…I can’t even come up with any of the other hilarity. But there was more. Maybe I’ll get a tape recorder or something for next time? ;)
PICTURESSSSSS:
This was taken without zoom at all. SO CLOSE, GUYS. SO CLOSE.
As for the rest of these, I did nothing but resize and sharpen. Some of them look about a thousand times better than I was expecting.
