Al wasn't moving very far from his brother; whether it was for Ed's comfort or his own, one couldn't say. But he kept looking over at the man walking alongside them, someone who had done and given so much to them both, most of which they hadn't realized at the time, over the years.
Every time the former Colonel looked in their direction, Al gave him the warmest, whole-hearted smile he could muster -- Al-power at full throttle. It wasn't enough; he doubted it would be. He gave him a smile in return so like what his brother used to give him, that hated fake smile that never touched the eyes. But he was undaunted. He really wasn't expecting any huge changes overnight. Everybody had been on a road too long and everybody was sore and battered from the journey, metamorphical or not. And Roy Mustang was among the last to get home, wherever home might be. It would be a while yet. But Al wasn't planning to ditch the older man to his own devices in the Nexus, whether he liked it or not. It was his turn to be the pesky meddling one.
He knew where the apartment building was where Ed had obtained an apartment for Roy. He'd been over there several times, helping Ed get it ready as soon as the apartment opened. Although prefurnished, there were still things left up to the resident to supply. They'd stocked the place with bedding, towels, personal toiletries, household supplies, and food, as well as leaving a bit of cash on hand to last until paychecks started coming in.
"We made sure the place was ready, and it's really nice," Al told him. "The living room window has a nice view of a park and it doesn't seem like a noisy place. I hope you'll like it." Again with the Al-power smile at full force.
