I don't think my go-to Star Wars LJ userpic has ever been more appropriate. Because Lucas really seems like he's been frozen in carbonite, and no one is willing to creep into Jabba's Palace and revive him.
No, I'm not really too thrilled about
this announcement. I'm not too surprised either. I guess Lucasfilm will make a lot of money rereleasing the films theatrically in 3D, but I'm personally kind of burnt out by the Emperor Lucas. And I say that as a big Star Wars fan.
Some if it may be that the idea of watching it with my kids in the theaters does little for me - my daughter has monovision, so 3D will be pretty 2D for her. And I'm not convinced my son will be able to sit through anything, even in two years time. So really - I'll be just as happy to watch them all on DVD with the kids, and wait for
Death Troopers to come out in paperback.
On the other hand, maybe we'll get the live action TV series sooner (2012, instead of 2102), which with limited Lucas involvement, might be cool. But what I'm really looking forward to is Lucas finally making all those weird experiemental films he's been talking about for God-knows how long, and finally passing the torch to someone(s) else more capable, so said new filmmakers can go make some brand new Star Wars movies.
But no, not holding my breath on that.
