Thirty-Three

As some of you may have heard, I had a birthday over the weekend. I think 33 is going to be a GREAT year for me, thankyouverymuch.

The birthday sheenanigans this year were pretty mellow, though. Friday I took off and did whatever the hell I wanted to. Which translated to: drank lots of coffee, wrote fiction (in a coffeeshop no less - MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA), went to the movies in the middle of the day with my wife (thoroughly enjoyed The Town - solid little piece of crime cinema), and then had pizza for dinner. Oh, and Emma and Claire made me lemon cupcakes for dessert, which were delicious. Saturday (my actual birthday) we went to the Farmer's Market in Irvine in the morning, did mellow stuff at home, and went to Lucille's with my parents and in-laws. I like Lucille's a lot, especially the fried okra. For some reason I thought it'd be a good idea to try the Jambalaya there instead of the Baby Backs, but alas, was not all that impressed. It was okay, but not great. So next year: whatever I do for dinner, I'm eating something I'm pretty sure I'm going to like. But the booze was fine, the company and conversation of dinner itself was great (we all took turns chasing Oliver around), and it was an extremely nice night out with people I love. Sunday, which turned out to be the hottest day in the history of Los Angeles, we went to Oak Glen for Claire's Girl Scout troop and learned about life on the apple farm, how to press cider, etc. It was good. We watched "A Bug's Life" on DVD (I'd never seen it before - it was pretty good) and played with a Nook at a B&N and had Mexican food for dinner.

Like I said, it was a good time.

This coming year? I have no idea what's in store for me. I know a few things I want to work on. But the future feels pretty wide-open at the moment, and I like that.

Thanks to everyone who sent me emails, posted "Happy Birthday" on FB, etc. You all rock, and I really do appreciate the well-wishes.

birthday week, my life
